| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Mike Flannery on the | 4 | | occasion of his retirement as a political reporter; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mike Flannery has been an integral figure as a | 6 | | reporter covering politics throughout Illinois and Chicago | 7 | | over the past five decades; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Mike Flannery was born in Washington, D.C. on | 9 | | March 29, 1951; through his father, a World War II veteran, he | 10 | | inherited a great knack for politics and asking the questions | 11 | | that needed to be asked; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Mike Flannery attended Georgetown University and | 13 | | graduated with a degree in political science and | 14 | | communications; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Mike Flannery began his career as a reporter | 16 | | covering politics with the Chicago Sun-Times in 1973; he | 17 | | shifted to television in 1980, working with CBS 2 for 30 years; | 18 | | and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Mike Flannery then moved to FOX 32, where he | 20 | | worked as the political director; he oversaw his own weekly |

| 1 | | program, Flannery Fired Up, in which he highlighted and | 2 | | focused on issues that were important to residents of | 3 | | Illinois, especially Chicagoans; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, On his weekly program, Mike Flannery would sit | 5 | | with Chicago's political leaders for in-depth conversations; | 6 | | over the course of his program, he covered the corruption | 7 | | trial of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich and | 8 | | interviewed ten Chicago mayors, eight Illinois governors, and | 9 | | 6 U.S. presidents; in his final show, he interviewed Cook | 10 | | County Sheriff Tom Dart and U.S. Congressman Chuy Garcia; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Mike Flannery is one of a select few who | 12 | | understand the regional politics of the area, and he has | 13 | | offered a passionate voice and a fiery perspective for the | 14 | | past five decades; therefore, be it
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 16 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 17 | | we congratulate Mike Flannery on his successful career as a | 18 | | political reporter, commend him for his leadership in covering | 19 | | state and local government and for his efforts to hold elected | 20 | | officials accountable to the people of Illinois and Chicago, | 21 | | and wish him a happy retirement; and be it further
