| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Richard Francis Streitz of Joliet who | 4 | | passed away on March 21, 2017; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Richard Streitz was born in Joliet to Richard and | 6 | | Cecelia (Ryan) on November 25, 1921; he graduated from Joliet | 7 | | Township High School in 1940 and attended Grinnell College in | 8 | | Iowa on a football scholarship before entering the United | 9 | | States Navy; he served on the USS Repose helping with dental | 10 | | care and toured the Pacific Theatre during World War II, | 11 | | following his service in the Navy, he graduated from Loyola | 12 | | Dental School and attended the Forsyth Clinic in Boston; he | 13 | | married Jean Kavanaugh in 1953; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Richard Streitz was involved in original growth | 15 | | studies and specialized in pediatric dentistry before it was a | 16 | | specialty; he began the Pediatric Department at Loyola | 17 | | University where he treated many children in the greater Joliet | 18 | | area; he then opened his own practice where he performed | 19 | | dentistry for over 50 years; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Richard Streitz volunteered at Will Grundy | 21 | | Medical Clinic on his days off performing many extractions; he | 22 | | was also a member of the Joliet Chamber of Commerce and was one |

| 1 | | of the founding fathers of the Joliet Area Community Hospice | 2 | | and St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and School, where he | 3 | | remained a devoted member; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Richard Streitz spent his time away from the | 5 | | office with his family and friends enjoying different parts of | 6 | | the country including Innisbrook, Florida, the Northwoods of | 7 | | Wisconsin, and skiing in the mountains; he will long be | 8 | | remembered for his professional integrity, humor, and his | 9 | | athleticism on the tennis court, ski hill, and golf course; he | 10 | | shared the gift of his friendship with so many and was devoted | 11 | | to his family in the role as "Papa"; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Richard Streitz was preceded in death by his | 13 | | parents; and his sister, Delores; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Richard Streitz is survived by his wife, Jean; his | 15 | | children, Richard (Mary) Streitz, Nanette (Philip) Coon, | 16 | | Colleen (Martin) Buehler, and Dr. Mark (Ann) Streitz; his | 17 | | grandchildren, Weston Streitz, Chapin (Stephen) Konsler, Sarah | 18 | | (Nathan) Byram, Katherine Coon (fiancee Michael Bohling), | 19 | | Morgan (Adam) Zanotti, Martin Buehler Jr., and Callie and Ryan | 20 | | Streitz; his great-grandchildren, McKenna, Main, and Reilly | 21 | | Byram; his brother, Dr. Thomas (Susan) Streitz; many nieces and | 22 | | nephews, and his forever chair-side canine companion, Piper; | 23 | | therefore, be it

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 3 | | Richard Francis Streitz, and extend our sincere condolences to | 4 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 5 | | further | 6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 7 | | presented to the family of Richard Streitz as an expression of | 8 | | our deepest sympathy.
