| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Richard Edward Williams Sr.; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Richard Williams Sr. was born in Chicago to Arthur | 5 | | L. Williams and Nellie R. Atkins on July 3, 1926; he grew up on | 6 | | the Westside of Chicago and attended Grant and Tennyson
| 7 | | elementary schools and Crane High School; he served in the | 8 | | United States Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1945; he | 9 | | was baptized in the Pacific Ocean in Hawaii in 1944; he | 10 | | returned to Chicago after the war and married Louise Ford; he | 11 | | later married Dolores Sellers in 1950; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Richard Williams Sr. worked for various | 13 | | companies, including the Ford Motor Co., Western
Electric, and | 14 | | the Hines Veterans Administration Hospital; he had a career of | 15 | | over 30 years as a welder at
International Harvester (IH); he | 16 | | served as a United Auto Workers (UAW) union steward,
shop | 17 | | committeeman, regional representative and was very active with | 18 | | the UAW
Political Action Committee while at IH; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Richard Williams Sr. co-owned a barbershop and was | 20 | | a independent plumbing and heating contractor on the Westside; | 21 | | and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Richard Williams Sr. enjoyed tinkering and fixing | 2 | | things, reading, collecting various objects, and spending time | 3 | | with this family; he was affectionately known as "Papa | 4 | | Richard"; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Richard Williams Sr. is survived by his wife of 66 | 6 | | years, Dolores; his daughter, Sheila Dorns; his sons, Tyrone | 7 | | (Janice) Williams, Rev. Richard
Williams Jr. (Cassopolis | 8 | | Michigan), Kevin (Victoria) Williams, Keith (Pamela)
Williams, | 9 | | and Vincent (Suzanne) Williams; 21 grandchildren; 17 | 10 | | great-grandchildren;
and countless nieces and nephews and | 11 | | friends; therefore, be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 14 | | Richard Edward Williams Sr., and extend our sincere condolences | 15 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | 16 | | it further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of Richard Williams Sr. as an | 19 | | expression of our deepest sympathy.
