| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are pleased to recognize Reverend Christopher | 4 | | J. Devron as he leaves Christ the King Jesuit College Prep; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, A Chicago native, Rev. Christopher Devron is the | 6 | | founding president of Christ the King Jesuit College Prep.; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Christopher Devron earned a bachelors of arts | 8 | | in philosophy and government from the University of Notre Dame | 9 | | in 1989 and entered the Society of Jesus in 1991; he earned a | 10 | | masters of arts in the history of philosophy from Loyola | 11 | | University in Chicago, a masters of divinity from the Weston | 12 | | Jesuit School of Theology, and a masters of arts in theology | 13 | | with a concentration in African-American religious experience | 14 | | through coursework at Harvard Divinity School and the Institute | 15 | | for Black Catholic Studies at Xavier University in New Orleans; | 16 | | and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, From 1995 to 1996, Rev. Christopher Devron was | 18 | | executive director of the Inner-City Teaching Corps in Chicago, | 19 | | which recruits recent college graduates to teach in inner-city | 20 | | schools throughout the city; he taught for a year at the | 21 | | Gonzaga Middle School program in Harlem, and created a | 22 | | scholarship program to assist Gonzaga graduates attend private |

| 1 | | high schools; afterwards he was assigned as director of the | 2 | | Loyola Youth Center in Crown Heights, Brooklyn; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Following his ordination in 2001, Rev. | 4 | | Christopher Devron worked as the founding director of | 5 | | Recruiting Excellence for Academics in Catholic High Schools | 6 | | (REACH), to identify, recruit, and financially assist | 7 | | academically gifted middle school boys to attend Regis and | 8 | | other top Jesuit high schools in New York; he has also taught | 9 | | theology and worked as a campus minister and chair of the | 10 | | committee on diversity at Regis, served as a weekend associate | 11 | | at the Church of St. Joseph in Harlem, and published articles | 12 | | in America, The Tablet, the Journal of Popular Culture, and | 13 | | BustedHalo.com; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Christopher Devron is listed in Who's Who of | 15 | | American Teachers and Educators; therefore, be it
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 17 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 18 | | we recognize Reverend Christopher J. Devron founding president | 19 | | of Christ the King Jesuit College Prep as he leaves the school; | 20 | | and be it further
