| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Victor John Moeller of Elgin, formerly of | 4 | | Wonder Lake, who passed away on May 9, 2019; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Victor Moeller was born on January 7, 1937; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Victor Moeller spent 14 years as a Christian | 7 | | Brother, having taught at Christian Brothers College in | 8 | | Memphis; he later married Patricia and was employed by the | 9 | | Great Books Foundation, where he taught techniques of the | 10 | | Socratic Method and Shared Inquiry; for many years, he taught | 11 | | English at St. Jacobs High School; he retired from full-time | 12 | | teaching in 2003; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Victor Moeller wrote and co-authored several | 14 | | books on teaching and curriculum, including College Socratic | 15 | | Seminars, Intro to College Philosophy, College Rhetoric: What | 16 | | Every Student Needs to Know, Shakespeare Seminar and Film | 17 | | Series I and II, Literature Circles that Engage, and Socratic | 18 | | Seminars in Middle School Texts and Films That Engage Students | 19 | | in Reflective Thinking and Close Reading; in addition to | 20 | | writing, he taught English part-time at McHenry County College | 21 | | and led book club discussions in Elgin; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Victor Moeller loved teaching; he enjoyed | 2 | | watching good movies, listening to classical music, feeding the | 3 | | squirrels and birds, keeping up with the news, and a good fire | 4 | | each winter evening; above all, he loved books and sharing them | 5 | | with people he loved; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Victor Moeller is survived by his wife, Patricia; | 7 | | his sons, Marc and Paul; his sister, Mary; his | 8 | | daughters-in-law, Anna and Karena; and his granddaughters, | 9 | | Madeline, Eleanor, and Bella; therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 12 | | Victor John Moeller and extend our sincere condolences to his | 13 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 14 | | further
| 15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 16 | | presented to the family of Victor Moeller as an expression of | 17 | | our deepest sympathy.
