| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of John Van Dyke "Tad" Skillman Jr., a | 4 | | resident of Carpentersville for the past 64 years, who passed | 5 | | away on August 23, 2021; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, John Skillman was born to John Skillman Sr. and | 7 | | Charlotte C. (Steib) Brady in Chicago on August 9, 1933; he | 8 | | served in the U.S. Army; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, John Skillman began his professional career as a | 10 | | police officer in the Village of Carpentersville in the early | 11 | | 1960s; during his tenure, he earned the ranks of sergeant, | 12 | | lieutenant, captain, and police chief; he retired as chief of | 13 | | police after 25 years of service to the Carpentersville Police | 14 | | Department in 1985; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Following his retirement, John Skillman served as | 16 | | village trustee of Carpentersville from 1985 to 1989; he later | 17 | | served as village board president from 1989 to 1997; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, John Skillman was a charter member of St. Monica | 19 | | Catholic Church in Carpentersville; he served on School | 20 | | District #300's Board of Education from 1971 to 1983, where he | 21 | | also previously served as board president; he was an avid |

| 1 | | supporter of the Irving Crown High School Booster Club; he was | 2 | | later a board member and an inductee of the Dundee Crown High | 3 | | School's Athletic Hall of Fame; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, John Skillman was known for always giving, | 5 | | helping, and being there for people; he was and will be | 6 | | remembered as a true public servant; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, John Skillman was preceded in death by his | 8 | | parents; his wife of 51 years, Rosemary Dooley Skillman; and | 9 | | his sisters, Barbara Smith and Terry Dewey; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, John Skillman is survived by his children, | 11 | | Kathleen (Randy) Sellnow, Maureen (the late Michael) Harrison, | 12 | | John (Susan) Skillman, and Robert (Marybeth) Skillman; his | 13 | | grandchildren, Matthew (Rebecca) Harrison, James (Molly) and | 14 | | Scott (Brittany) Sellnow, and Jonathan (Larisa), Amanda, Van | 15 | | Dyke, and Callie Skillman; his great-grandchildren, Riley, | 16 | | Bailey, Sean, Levi, Evan, Colin, and Arija; his sisters, Sally | 17 | | Murphy, Penny (Joe) Miller, and Bonnie (Bill Roesler) Wyman; | 18 | | his many nieces and nephews; his countless friends; and his | 19 | | longtime companion, Peggy Basura; therefore, be it
