| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the Kiwanis Club of | 4 | | Geneseo on more than 100 years of service to the community; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of Geneseo was chartered on | 6 | | October 22, 1920 and was sponsored by the Galesburg Kiwanis | 7 | | Club; of the club's 50 members, 44 members and two guests were | 8 | | present at the first meeting; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, With the exception of a short period of five | 10 | | years during the depression from 1932 to 1937, Kiwanis Club of | 11 | | Geneseo members have met weekly over the past 100 years with | 12 | | the purpose of service to the community and assistance to the | 13 | | aging, the needy, and the youth of Geneseo; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Early projects for the Kiwanis Club of Geneseo | 15 | | included bicycle riding safety, kite flying contests, and old | 16 | | time minstrel shows; more recently, local projects, such as | 17 | | Swim for Fun Day at the Geneseo Pool with Kiwanis watermelon | 18 | | and a Kids Day Doo-Dah Parade of costumed pets, bikes, and | 19 | | wagons, have been popular; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of Geneseo sponsors two youth | 21 | | activities in the Geneseo school system, the High School Key |

| 1 | | Club, chartered in April of 1996, and the Middle School | 2 | | Builders Club, chartered in February of 2000; both clubs were | 3 | | formed to develop a sense of community service and leadership | 4 | | in young people; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, the Kiwanis Club of Geneseo has | 6 | | supported a variety of charitable organizations, including the | 7 | | Children's Miracle Network, assisted seniors with completing | 8 | | their income tax forms, provided college scholarships for Key | 9 | | Club seniors, and completed volunteer work at Hammond Henry | 10 | | Hospital and has grown to offer 30 grants to local charities | 11 | | and has sponsored Boy Scout Troop 131 since its formation; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of Geneseo has supported many of | 13 | | the Kiwanis International's Worldwide service projects, such | 14 | | as the 1994 IDD (Iodine Deficiency Disorders) $75 million | 15 | | campaign and the Spastic Paralysis Research Foundation through | 16 | | an annual Bowl-A-Thon, and became a gold-level club in support | 17 | | of the 2010 Eliminate project; the local club is most proud of | 18 | | their recent community service project of doubling the size of | 19 | | the Geneseo Park Shelter and renaming it the Kiwanis Pavilion; | 20 | | and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Pavilion is the location of the | 22 | | Kiwanis Club of Geneseo's well known community wide annual | 23 | | July 4th "Pork in the Park" dinner; this dinner includes the |

| 1 | | Maple City Band's patriotic concert held among 900 American | 2 | | Flags in honor of deceased veterans; therefore, be it
| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 4 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 5 | | we congratulate the Kiwanis Club of Geneseo for making a | 6 | | difference in their community for over 100 years; and be it | 7 | | further
| 8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 9 | | presented to the Kiwanis Club of Geneseo as a symbol of our | 10 | | respect and esteem.
