| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 |
| learn of the death of
Robert Donald Grahn of Hinsdale, who | 4 |
| passed away on August 10, 2009; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Robert Grahn was born on October 2, 1922, in | 6 |
| Chicago; his parents were John and Lydia Grahn; in 1956, he | 7 |
| moved to Hinsdale with his wife, June; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, After graduating as an electrical engineer from | 9 |
| Purdue University, Robert Grahn served his country in the | 10 |
| United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War; | 11 |
| after his discharge, he worked as a design engineer for the | 12 |
| Sunbeam Corporation until his retirement in 1987; and
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Robert Grahn was an active member at the Christ | 14 |
| Lutheran Church in Clarendon Hills for more than 50 years, | 15 |
| having served on the church's council and as an usher | 16 |
| throughout the years; he was also an active member and past | 17 |
| commander of the American Legion Post #250 and participated in | 18 |
| many of the post's parades and ceremonies; and
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Robert Grahn enjoyed taking vacations in Lemon | 20 |
| Bay, Florida every year; he was well known in that area as an | 21 |
| aficionado of music from the 1940s; he particularly enjoyed |

| Glen Miller's "Moonlight Serenade", to which he and June loved | 2 |
| to dance as they did during their high school days at Bowen | 3 |
| High School; and
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Robert Grahn is survived by his wife of 60 years, | 5 |
| June; his beloved sons, Daniel, Michael, Thomas (David), and | 6 |
| James (Mary Kay); his sister, Dorothy; his sister-in-law, | 7 |
| Rainey (Ron) Spiller; his nephews, Glenn (Patty) Spiller and | 8 |
| John Lorenz; his niece, Sue Lorenz; his great-nephews, Chris | 9 |
| (Heather) Lorenz and Scott (Gina) Lorenz; and his friend, Luke | 10 |
| Morton; therefore, be it
| 11 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | 12 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 13 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Robert Donald Grahn; and | 14 |
| be it further
| 15 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 16 |
| presented to the family of Robert Grahn as an expression of our | 17 |
| sympathy.
