| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Robert Parker Coffin, who passed away on | 4 | | June 13, 2019 at the age of 101; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Robert Coffin was born in Chicago to Irene Borden | 6 | | Parker and Charles Howells Coffin on August 6, 1917; he | 7 | | graduated from New Trier High School in 1935 and Yale | 8 | | University in 1939 with a degree in civil engineering; he | 9 | | worked briefly as a structural engineer in Chicago before | 10 | | enlisting in the U.S. Navy Air Corps in 1942; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Robert Coffin and his family settled in Long Grove | 12 | | after World War II, and he became a licensed architect; he | 13 | | helped Long Grove become incorporated in 1956 and served as a | 14 | | trustee on the first Long Grove Village Board and as village | 15 | | president for 22 years, followed by 22 years on the Plan | 16 | | Commission; he also served on the local school board and his | 17 | | church's council; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, Robert Coffin played a major role in shaping his | 19 | | community, holding firm on the village's rural character and | 20 | | the preservation of open spaces, and one of Long Grove's main | 21 | | thoroughfares is named in his honor; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Robert Coffin was a well-known architect, a | 2 | | talented builder, an amateur historian, a naturalist, a | 3 | | conservationist, a community leader, and a committed family | 4 | | man; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Robert Coffin was preceded in death by his wife of | 6 | | 74 years, Elizabeth Magie Coffin, and his son, Robert Parker | 7 | | Coffin Jr.; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Robert Coffin is survived by his daughter, Betsy | 9 | | Hofmeister (Dave); his daughter-in-law, Joy Coffin; his | 10 | | daughter, Barbara Coffin (Dan Engstrom); his son, John (Chris) | 11 | | Coffin; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; | 12 | | therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 15 | | Robert Parker Coffin and extend our sincere condolences to his | 16 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 17 | | further
