| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 |
| learn of the death of Frederick A. Dolan II of Normal, who | 4 |
| passed away on October 29, 2009; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born February 7, 1924, in New York New | 6 |
| York, the son of Frederick A. and Marjorie Bruen Dolan; he | 7 |
| married Jacqueline S. Vlaskamp on May 24, 1947, in Dayton, | 8 |
| Ohio; he graduated from Bloomington High School in 1941; he | 9 |
| then attended and graduated from Carnegie Institute of | 10 |
| Technology in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he received a | 11 |
| Bachelor of Science degree in printing technology and met his | 12 |
| then wife-to-be, Jackie; and
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, He served during World War II with the 101st | 14 |
| Infantry, 26th Division in the European Theater from October | 15 |
| 1944 to April 1945; he participated in the Battle of the Bulge | 16 |
| and was awarded the Purple Heart with oak leaf clusters during | 17 |
| his service; his work career began when he returned to | 18 |
| Bloomington in 1947 to join the family business, Pantagraph | 19 |
| Printing & Stationary Company; he assumed its leadership | 20 |
| following the death of his father in 1960 and was the third | 21 |
| generation of his family to work at the Pantagraph, retiring in | 22 |
| 2005 after 58 years of service; and

| WHEREAS, He was involved in numerous civic and charitable | 2 |
| activities throughout his life; major associations included | 3 |
| the YMCA, the United Way of McLean County (as well as its | 4 |
| predecessor, the United Fund), and the local | 5 |
| Unitarian/Universalist Church, where he also led the | 6 |
| fundraising drive to construct the building the church | 7 |
| presently occupies; his last major and ongoing endeavor was | 8 |
| with the McLean County Historical Society and the development | 9 |
| of the Museum of History, serving as president of the Society | 10 |
| for three terms and spearheading the successful fund drive to | 11 |
| secure the former county courthouse as the permanent site for | 12 |
| the museum; and
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, He was a member of Wade Barney Lodge No. 512 and | 14 |
| the Scottish Rite Valley of Bloomington, where he had served as | 15 |
| commander in chief of the Bloomington Consistory; he was | 16 |
| awarded the honorary 33 degree, the highest degree in Masonry, | 17 |
| in 1968; and | 18 |
| WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; | 19 |
| an infant son; and his beloved sister, Jessie Behr; and
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, Frederick Dolan is survived by his two sons, | 21 |
| Michael (Carole) and Fred III (Gay); his grandchildren, | 22 |
| Nicholas (Jennifer) Dolan and Gretchen Chesley; and his close | 23 |
| friend, travel companion, and brother-in-law, Carl Behr; |

| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | 3 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 4 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Frederick Dolan; and be | 5 |
| it further
| 6 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 7 |
| presented to the family of Frederick Dolan as a symbol of our | 8 |
| sincere sympathy.
