| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Homer Gene Gurtler of Peoria, who | 4 | | passed away on September 5, 2021; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Homer Gurtler was born to Charles F. and Pearl | 6 | | (Anderson) Gurtler in Summerfield, Kansas on October 27, 1924; | 7 | | he married Barbara Bitting at First United Methodist Church in | 8 | | Peoria on July 3, 1954; he graduated from Kansas State | 9 | | University with a degree in Agricultural Engineering; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Homer Gurtler began working for Caterpillar | 11 | | Tractor, Co. in 1953; for many years he was a service | 12 | | representative, first in North Carolina, South Carolina, and | 13 | | Georgia and then in New York State, Vermont, and New | 14 | | Hampshire; he also spent time as a service representative on | 15 | | the Ohio Turnpike and the Saint Lawrence Seaway Project; after | 16 | | returning to Peoria in 1965, he worked in service and | 17 | | marketing; he retired in 1988; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Homer Gurtler delivered Meals on Wheels and drove | 19 | | for the Red Cross; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Homer Gurtler was a long time member of | 21 | | University United Methodist Church in Peoria where he was |

| 1 | | usher captain for many years; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Homer Gurtler loved to travel, play tennis, camp, | 3 | | hike, and garden; he was a member of the Highpointers Club and | 4 | | visited the high points of 41 states; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Homer Gurtler was preceded in death by his | 6 | | parents; his sisters, Virginia (Robert) Loebeck and Mildred | 7 | | (Eugene) Moseley; and his brother, Charles (Pat Brainard) A. | 8 | | Gurtler; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Homer Gurtler is survived by his wife; his | 10 | | daughter, Karen (Pete) May; his son, Gary Gurtler; his | 11 | | granddaughter, Julie (Riley McNutt) May; his grandson, Zachary | 12 | | (Laura Lenius) May; his great-granddaughter, Kennedy Marie | 13 | | May; and his several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 16 | | Homer Gene Gurtler and extend our sincere condolences to his | 17 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 18 | | further
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 20 | | presented to the family of Homer Gurtler as an expression of | 21 | | our deepest sympathy.
