| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 |
| learn of the death of
Barbara Jones Green; and
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Barbara Jones Green earned her Bachelor of Science
| 5 |
| degree in business administration from Tennessee State
| 6 |
| University; she earned her Master of Science degree in
Social | 7 |
| Work from Spertus College in 1999; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Barbara Jones Green founded the
Lakeside | 9 |
| Community Committee, a
licensed child welfare authority which
| 10 |
| provides for the social and recreational needs of at-risk | 11 |
| children and teens, in 1964; under her leadership, the | 12 |
| organization grew to administer a variety of programs and | 13 |
| services, including Substance Abuse Awareness, Teen Pregnancy | 14 |
| Prevention, Unwed Mothers Parenting, Literacy Enhancement, | 15 |
| Reading and Math Clinics with tutoring, Referral Services, Teen | 16 |
| Reach, Foster Parent Recruitment, Visitation Programs, | 17 |
| Employment Assistance Counseling, and Welfare-to-Work | 18 |
| Programs; she also joined forces with the Illinois Department | 19 |
| of Children and Family Services and the Illinois Department of | 20 |
| Human Services to expand her company's outreach; and
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Barbara Jones Green was the founder of Jonette | 22 |
| Products Enterprise, Ltd., a diverse
concession management and |

| management systems corporation; and
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Barbara Jones Green was the founder of the Golfing | 3 |
| Friends of Chicago, a charitable organization that has provided
| 4 |
| over $400,000 in educational scholarships to needy students; | 5 |
| she was also
involved in fundraising efforts to benefit United | 6 |
| Way, AfriCare,
Vision of Freedom at Southern University, Xavier | 7 |
| University, and
Haven House; and | 8 |
| WHEREAS, Barbara Jones Green was an active presence in her | 9 |
| community; she was a tireless worker on the Illinois Public Aid | 10 |
| Advisory Council; she served as the chairperson of the Mayor's | 11 |
| Blue Ribbon Committee for Historic Preservation of | 12 |
| Bronzeville; she served on the Board of Directors of the | 13 |
| Halfway House for Girls of Crestwood, Illinois; she served as | 14 |
| Vice Chairman of the Chicago Board of Appeals from 1983 until | 15 |
| 1990; she was also a member in The Links, Incorporated, the | 16 |
| Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Moles, Incorporated, Carousels, | 17 |
| Incorporated, and Metropolitan Clusters; and | 18 |
| WHEREAS, Barbara Jones Green was the recipient of many | 19 |
| awards in honor of her many accomplishments, including a 2006 | 20 |
| ETA Theatre Outstanding Business Woman award, a 2005 T.W.O. | 21 |
| Business Leader Award, a 2005 Phenomenal Woman Award, a 2003 | 22 |
| HANS Foundation Award, a 1998 Cook County Women's Commission | 23 |
| Unsung Heroine Award, a nomination for a 1992 Dollars and Sense |

| Magazine's America's Best and Brightest Award, a 1992 Illinois | 2 |
| DCFS Clara Muhammad Foundation Award, a Chicago Housing | 3 |

| WHEREAS, Barbara Jones Green was preceded in death by her | 10 |
| parents and her brother; and | 11 |
| WHEREAS, Barbara Jones Green is survived by her sisters, | 12 |
| Gertha Estill (John) and Betty Robertson (Cleveland); her | 13 |
| sister-in-law, Rosalyn Jones; her nieces, Ruby Boatner | 14 |
| (Ronnie), Jan Blair (Ray), Gwen Holt (Will), Cassandra Shead | 15 |
| (Ken), Vanessa Adkins Ed.D. (Floyd), Nedra Patterson (Lew), | 16 |
| Carolyn Burkes (Michael), and Nicole Patterson Eades (Joseph); | 17 |
| her nephews, Charlie Gatson, Michael Williams, Jerry Wheeler, | 18 |
| Robert (Scoop) Jackson, Randall (Jack) Jackson, Anthony Jones | 19 |
| (Morticia), and Frederick Jones; her godmother, Gloria Bynum; | 20 |
| her loving friend, Joe Chu; her special friends, Illinois | 21 |
| Senate President Emil Jones, Jr., and Lula Ford; and her many | 22 |
| other relatives and extended families she claimed, as well as | 23 |
| her many friends throughout the City of Chicago, the United | 24 |
| States, and abroad; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL | 2 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 3 |
| her family and friends, the passing of Barbara Jones Green; and | 4 |
| be it further
| 5 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 6 |
| presented to the family of Barbara Jones Green as an expression | 7 |
| of our sympathy.
