| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Greg | 4 | | Hinton, a lifelong Chicagoan, who passed away on August 25, | 5 | | 2019; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Greg Hinton was born on August 4, 1953; he grew up | 7 | | in Bronzeville with his parents and six siblings; he graduated | 8 | | from Wendell Phillips Academy High School and the University of | 9 | | Illinois; he earned a master's degree from Loyola University | 10 | | Chicago and was a doctoral candidate studying values driven | 11 | | leadership at Benedictine University; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Greg Hinton was a proud member of Omega Psi Phi, | 13 | | the first predominantly African American fraternity to be | 14 | | founded at a historically black university, and was initiated | 15 | | into the Pi Psi Chapter at the University of Illinois in 1973; | 16 | | and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Greg Hinton dedicated his life to expanding | 18 | | diversity in all levels of government, politics, and the | 19 | | private sector; he began his career as a human resources and | 20 | | staffing executive for multinational corporations, where he | 21 | | developed strategies to increase diversity in hiring and to | 22 | | create inclusive workplace environments; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Greg Hinton was appointed the first chief | 2 | | diversity officer for the Democratic National Committee, where | 3 | | he held campaigns across the country accountable for increasing | 4 | | the hiring of people of color and served as a liaison to the | 5 | | White House regarding political diversity matters; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Greg Hinton was the founder and Chief Executive | 7 | | Officer of Gregory Group Advisors, specializing in diversity | 8 | | and leadership consulting for businesses in the Chicago area; | 9 | | and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, After working with the Black United Fund of | 11 | | Illinois to provide philanthropic support to African American | 12 | | communities as a board member for 12 years, Greg Hinton was | 13 | | named Board Chairman of the organization in June 2019; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Greg Hinton was honored with over 50 awards in | 15 | | recognition of his leadership and contributions to communities | 16 | | across the globe; he served as a board member for dozens of | 17 | | organizations dedicated to advancing opportunities for | 18 | | minorities and to improving the lives of others; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Greg Hinton was a friend and mentor to many, | 20 | | dedicated to fostering the next generation of leaders in | 21 | | Chicago's South Side and across the world; he will be |

| 1 | | remembered for his exuberance, tenacious work ethic, and | 2 | | commitment to creating opportunities for all; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Greg Hinton is survived by his sons, Kyle, | 4 | | Christopher, and Greg; his daughter, Arifa; and two | 5 | | granddaughters; therefore, be it
| 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 7 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 8 | | we mourn the passing of Greg Hinton and extend our sincere | 9 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | 10 | | him; and be it further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 | | presented to the family of Greg Hinton as an expression of our | 13 | | deepest sympathy.
