| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Chicago Police Department Commander of | 4 | | the 8th District, John Kupczyk, who passed away on January 21, | 5 | | 2012; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, He began his law enforcement career by serving on | 7 | | the Oakbrook Police Department until 1983; he joined the | 8 | | Chicago Police Department in 1983 and quickly ascended the | 9 | | ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and was appointed | 10 | | Commander of the 8th District; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, He was an active member of the Fraternal Order of | 12 | | Police Lodge #7 and the Polish American Police Association | 13 | | (P.A.P.A.), which honored him as Man of the Year in 2010; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, He was an active supporter of Gold Star Families, | 15 | | the St. Jude Police League, and numerous community, religious, | 16 | | and civic organizations; he was a founding member of The | 17 | | "Kohiba" Sports and Fisherman's Club; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Commander John Kupczyk was the loving husband of | 19 | | 28 years to Elizabeth, nee Podkowski; the loving father of | 20 | | Kristin (fiancee, Maxwell Sexton) and Katie; the cherished | 21 | | brother of Nancy McCue and Detective David C.P.D.; the dearest |

| 1 | | brother-in-law of Richard (Patty) Podkowski and Alicia (John) | 2 | | Solomon; the devoted uncle of Christine (Michael) Vertucci, | 3 | | Brian (Jodi), and Matthew (Kim) McCue, Richard Jr., and Anna | 4 | | Podkowski; the beloved son of the late Frances and Edward | 5 | | Kupczyk; the loving son-in-law of Mary and the late John | 6 | | Podkowski; and he was respected and honored by many cousins, | 7 | | friends, and colleagues; therefore, be it
