| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Ralph S. Hurwitz of Springfield, who | 4 | | passed away on October 18, 2023; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Ralph Hurwitz was born to Henry and Bertha | 6 | | (Chason) Hurwitz in Petersburg on September 8, 1924; he | 7 | | enlisted in the U.S. Army on November 17, 1943, serving in the | 8 | | Medical Detachment 399th Infantry in the European Theater; he | 9 | | earned the Medical Badge, the Distinguished Unit Badge, the | 10 | | American Theater Ribbon, the Fame Theater Ribbon with two | 11 | | bronze stars, the World War II Victory Medal with two Overseas | 12 | | Bars, and the Purple Heart; he was honorably discharged on May | 13 | | 15, 1946; he attended Iowa State University and earned his | 14 | | Bachelor of Science in Forestry and Economics from the | 15 | | University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign; he married Betty | 16 | | Greenberg on April 10, 1949; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Ralph Hurwitz began working as executive vice | 18 | | president and chairman of the Policy Management Committee for | 19 | | the Barker-Lubin Company in 1950; he became a partner with | 20 | | Hurwitz Enterprises in 1970; he was a registered real estate | 21 | | and insurance broker in the State; while he officially retired | 22 | | in 1986, he continued to be active in the real estate | 23 | | profession; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Ralph Hurwitz was chairman of the Springfield | 2 | | Airport Authority and a board member of the Memorial Hospital | 3 | | Foundation; he was a member of the Economic Development | 4 | | Council for Springfield and Sangamon County, the Governor's | 5 | | Council of Health and Physical Fitness, the Springfield Art | 6 | | Association, the Sangamo Club, the Springfield Board of | 7 | | Realtors, the Springfield Chamber of Commerce, the Board of | 8 | | Aeronautics Advisor State of Illinois, the Illinois Hotel and | 9 | | Motel Association, the American Hotel and Motel Association, | 10 | | and the National Home Builders Association; he was the past | 11 | | president of Springfield Air Rendezvous and the Springfield | 12 | | Aviation Council; he was also the past chairman of the | 13 | | Governor's Prayer Breakfast Committee and a past board member | 14 | | of Child and Family Services and the Boys Club of America; and | 15 | | WHEREAS, Ralph Hurwitz was proud of his heritage, serving | 16 | | as a member and past president of Temple B'rith Shalom and as a | 17 | | past president of the Springfield Jewish Federation; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, Ralph Hurwitz received the Sertoma Service to | 19 | | Mankind Award and the Golden Boy Award from the Boys Club of | 20 | | America; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, Ralph Hurwitz was preceded in death by his | 22 | | daughters, Mary Jean Hurwitz and Lynne Hurwitz-Jackman, and |

| 1 | | his siblings, Irving and Evelyn; and | 2 | | WHEREAS, Ralph Hurwitz is survived by his wife; his son, | 3 | | Joe (Anna) Hurwitz; his grandchildren, Mary "Mimi" (Katie) | 4 | | Hurwitz, Jake (Amber) Hurwitz, Henry (Kelly) Hurwitz, and | 5 | | Michael (Kayla) Hurwitz; his great-grandchildren, Albie | 6 | | Hurwitz, Hudson Hurwitz, Aubrey Hurwitz, Chloe Hurwitz, Willow | 7 | | Hurwitz, Lola Hurwitz, Theo Hurwitz, Lily Hurwitz, and Charlie | 8 | | Tinsley; and his nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be | 9 | | it | 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 12 | | Ralph S. Hurwitz and extend our sincere condolences to his | 13 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 14 | | further | 15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 16 | | presented to the family of Ralph Hurwitz as an expression of | 17 | | our deepest sympathy. |
