| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Cheryl | 4 |
| Marie "Chip" Box of Rockford, who passed away on July 3, 2007; | 5 |
| and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Cheryl Box was born August 30, 1951, in Rockford, | 7 |
| to Nathaniel (Jake) and Marbline Box; she was a member of the | 8 |
| Mount Zion A.M.E. Church in Battle Creek,
Michigan, where she | 9 |
| was a member of the women's Bible study; she was previously a | 10 |
| member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, where she participated in | 11 |
| Sunday school, the Young People's Department (YPD), Nora | 12 |
| Taylor's Women's Missionary Society, director of the YPD, and | 13 |
| the Usher Board; and
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Cheryl Box graduated from West High School and | 15 |
| received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Northern | 16 |
| Illinois University and her doctorate from the University of | 17 |
| Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; she worked as an elementary | 18 |
| school teacher, alternative education director, and elementary | 19 |
| school principal for the Rockford School District, high school | 20 |
| counselor for the Elgin School District, and chief improvement | 21 |
| officer for the Battle Creek Public Schools; she also worked at | 22 |
| Northern Illinois University in the CHANCE Program; and

| WHEREAS, Cheryl Box was working as a principal-coach in the | 2 |
| Detroit Public Schools at the time of her passing; and she | 3 |
| provided private counseling services for the Illinois | 4 |
| Department of Children and Family Services; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Cheryl Box bowled with the National Traveler's | 6 |
| Bowling League and served on numerous boards and committees, | 7 |
| including the Booker T. Washington Center Board of Directors, | 8 |
| the Winnebago County Board, and Delta Kappa Gamma Society | 9 |
| International; she was an active member of Delta Sigma Theta | 10 |
| Sorority; and
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Cheryl Box leaves a loving family, including her | 12 |
| mother, Marbline Box; her sisters, Joyce Brown and Gwendolyn | 13 |
| Box; her niece, Shawna (Terrence) Young; her nephews, Kelley | 14 |
| Hudson, Marcus Hudson, Derrick (Jamica) Brown, James Box, and | 15 |
| Jermaine Box; her great-nephew, Caleb Young; her godsons, Mario | 16 |
| Marshall and Maynard McGee; as well as a host of other | 17 |
| relatives and friends; she also leaves special friends, John | 18 |
| Richards, Sondra Archibald, and Carstella Miller; she was | 19 |
| preceded in death by her father; her sister, Betty Louise | 20 |
| Hudson; and maternal and paternal grandparents; therefore, be | 21 |
| it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 23 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |

| mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Cheryl | 2 |
| Marie "Chip" Box; and be it further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 4 |
| presented to the family of Cheryl Marie "Chip" Box as a symbol | 5 |
| of our sympathy.
