| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Roy L. Hertel of Hillsboro, who passed | 4 | | away on May 25, 2017; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Roy Hertel was born in Du Quoin to Leonard "Jake" | 6 | | and Nola Burnetta (Annear) Hertel on February 7, 1949; he | 7 | | graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1967; he earned his | 8 | | bachelor's degree in history and political science from | 9 | | Greenville College and then completed his postgraduate studies | 10 | | at Georgetown University and Southern Illinois University in | 11 | | Edwardsville; he married Nanci Mauton at the Christian Church | 12 | | Disciples of Christ in Hillsboro on December 27, 1980; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Roy Hertel assisted with the services at Bass | 14 | | Funeral Home in Hillsboro and was a school teacher in Coffeen; | 15 | | he served as the Montgomery County Circuit Clerk and as a | 16 | | regional administrator with the Department of Montgomery | 17 | | County Health and Human Services; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Roy Hertel was a member of the Christian Church | 19 | | Disciples of Christ in Hillsboro; he was a 45-year member of | 20 | | the Lions Club, where he had held all offices and was district | 21 | | lieutenant governor and district governor in 1991 and 1992; he | 22 | | was the president of the Mt. Moriah Lodge No. 51

| 1 | | of Hillsboro and a member of Hillsboro Moose Lodge #1377; he | 2 | | served as president of the Circuit Clerk Association and as | 3 | | chairman of the Montgomery County Board; he was a member of the | 4 | | Hillsboro Sports Association, where he was very involved in the | 5 | | building of the new sports complex; he received the Sertoma | 6 | | Service to Mankind Award in 2004 and the Hillsboro Chamber | 7 | | Award in 2014; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Roy Hertel was preceded in death by his father, | 9 | | Leonard Hertel; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Roy Hertel is survived by his wife, Nanci; his | 11 | | son, James Leonard (Nichole) Hertel; his mother, Nola Hertel; | 12 | | and his grandson, Graysen James Roy Hertel; therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 15 | | Roy L. Hertel, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 16 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 17 | | further
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 19 | | presented to the family of Roy Hertel as an expression of our | 20 | | deepest sympathy.
