| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of James E. Fletcher of Burr Ridge, who | 4 | | passed away October 24, 2011; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago in 1921; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, His education at Illinois Wesleyan University was | 7 | | interrupted by World War II and his service as a 1st Lieutenant | 8 | | in the United States Air Force; he completed his education at | 9 | | Northwestern University, earning a bachelor's of science in | 10 | | commerce in 1948; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, He was a CPA who rose through the ranks at Field | 12 | | Enterprises Educational Corp. over 2 decades; he served in | 13 | | various affiliated and predecessor companies until being named | 14 | | president and chief executive officer of the parent company, | 15 | | Field Enterprises Inc., serving from 1970 to 1975; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, After retiring in 1975, he attended John Marshall | 17 | | School of Law, where he obtained a law degree; he subsequently | 18 | | practiced law part-time in both Illinois and Florida, spending | 19 | | his winter months in Marco Island, Florida; Mr. Fletcher served | 20 | | as the director of several organizations, including National | 21 | | Boulevard Bank of Chicago, the Northwestern Club of Chicago, |

| 1 | | Community Family Service and Mental Health Center, The Howard | 2 | | V. Phalin Foundation for Graduate Study, and the Chicago Crime | 3 | | Commission; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, He was a former trustee of the Ravinia Festival | 5 | | Association and the Prescott Institute in Prescott, Arizona; he | 6 | | also served as director and president of homeowners' | 7 | | associations in Burr Ridge and Marco Island; he received a | 8 | | Northwestern alumni merit award in 1976; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, James Fletcher is survived by his wife of 66 | 10 | | years, Margaret M., nee Kelley; his children and their | 11 | | families, Barbara Fletcher Oursler, James A., Michael W., Mark | 12 | | A., and Patricia Fletcher Berkovsky; his 12 grandchildren; and | 13 | | his 6 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | 15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 16 | | his family and friends, the passing of James Fletcher; and be | 17 | | it further
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 19 | | presented to the family of James Fletcher as a symbol of our | 20 | | sincere sympathy.
