| 2 | | WHEREAS, Chicago's independent, locally-owned businesses | 3 | | keep wealth circulating in our communities, adding to Chicago's | 4 | | economic vitality and resilience; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Local business owners are stewards of our | 6 | | communities, providing quality jobs, engaging in civic | 7 | | concerns, and contributing to local non-profits; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, A unique array of independent, locally-owned | 9 | | businesses preserves the culture and character of Chicago's | 10 | | neighborhoods and creates a stong sense of place; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Independent, locally-owned businesses help | 12 | | sustain vibrant, compact, walkable town centers that are | 13 | | essential to reducing sprawl, automobile use, habitat loss, and | 14 | | air and water pollution; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Independent, locally-owned businesses are | 16 | | committed to their communities, contributing to the local | 17 | | economy and responding to the needs of their community over | 18 | | many generations; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Local First Chicago has been promoting and | 20 | | supporting independent, locally-owned businesses throughout |

| 1 | | the City of Chicago for the past 8 years; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Local First Chicago has launched an exciting new | 3 | | campaign: "Eat, Drink & Buy Local 365", to promote these | 4 | | vibrant businesses year-round and to encourage Chicago | 5 | | citizens to shift $365 annually to independent, locally-owned | 6 | | businesses, resulting in nearly a $100 million positive impact | 7 | | in Chicago's local economy; therefore, be it | 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 9 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 10 | | we do hereby recognize Local First Chicago's "Eat, Drink, & Buy | 11 | | Local 365" campaign and its lasting economic impact on the City | 12 | | of Chicago and encourage its citizens to support Chicago's | 13 | | locally-owned, independent businesses and choose the future | 14 | | they want to see with every purchase they make; and be it | 15 | | further
