| 2 | | WHEREAS, Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement | 3 | | that unleashes the power of people
and organizations to | 4 | | transform the world and their communities; the Tuesday after | 5 | | Thanksgiving focuses on charity in the shopping-heavy week | 6 | | after the
holiday; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple | 8 | | idea, a day that encourages people
to do good; over the past | 9 | | seven years, this idea has grown into a global movement that | 10 | | inspires
hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, | 11 | | and celebrate generosity; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Whether it is a donation of time, money, or the | 13 | | power of a voice, Giving Tuesday is one of the best ways to get | 14 | | involved in a community; the idea is simple, come together with | 15 | | family, a community, co-workers,
or an organization and find a | 16 | | way to give back and then share your idea; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Whether it is making someone smile, helping a | 18 | | neighbor, showing
up for an issue or people, or giving | 19 | | something to those who need help, every act of generosity | 20 | | counts, and everyone has something to give; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, By volunteering, a person can give something back, |

| 1 | | making a difference to the people
around them, develop new | 2 | | skills, and learn more about issues affecting their community; | 3 | | in addition, the right
volunteer opportunity can help reduce | 4 | | stress, find friends, and even advance someone's career; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, People have the power and the passion to transform | 6 | | their community; by lending a voice to advocate for the causes | 7 | | and issues important to a community, we can all be activists | 8 | | who
affect the kind of change that makes our world a better | 9 | | place; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Community nonprofit organizations work tirelessly | 11 | | every day to make a
difference in their communities; many | 12 | | nonprofit organizations are understaffed or operating on a | 13 | | small budget
and cannot afford the marketing, HR, technology, | 14 | | or planning resources that their missions
deserve; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Many people donate to a nonprofit in honor of | 16 | | Giving Tuesday or organize a donation
drive with friends, | 17 | | family, neighbors, or co-workers; these drives are a great way | 18 | | to rally a group around an important cause; just about anything | 19 | | can be the focus of a donation drive, including toiletries, | 20 | | books,
clothes, or food; a seemingly small act of
kindness has | 21 | | the power to inspire generosity that can permeate society and | 22 | | catalyze change; therefore, be it

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 2 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 3 | | we encourage our residents to give
back to their local | 4 | | communities on Giving Tuesday in 2020, as the first Tuesday | 5 | | after Thanksgiving is
an opportunity to not only raise money | 6 | | but also a chance to unite and inspire communities
around the | 7 | | world.
