| 2 | | WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago was originally | 3 | | founded in 1864 as the Addison Lutheran Teachers Seminary; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago established its | 5 | | current River Forest campus in 1914; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago will celebrate its | 7 | | 150th year as an institution of higher learning in 2014; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago is a private, | 9 | | liberal arts-based university, centered in the gospel of Jesus | 10 | | Christ, and affiliated with the Lutheran Church - Missouri | 11 | | Synod; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago is recognized as a | 13 | | State, regional, and national leader in education, public | 14 | | service, and servant leadership; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago is comprised of 4 | 16 | | academic colleges which offer baccalaureate, master's, and | 17 | | doctoral degrees offered throughout the nation and abroad; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago has graduated over | 19 | | 34,000 alumni who have served and led in churches, schools, |

| 1 | | institutions, and communities throughout the State and beyond | 2 | | in a variety of vocations; and | 3 | | WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago has achieved record | 4 | | enrollment numbers, including nearly 1,500 undergraduate, | 5 | | 4,000 graduate, and 350 doctoral students; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago has established | 7 | | educational partnerships with many nations, including China, | 8 | | Spain, Italy, and England, in order to enhance and promote a | 9 | | globalized educational experience; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago has made adult | 11 | | education a priority through enhanced online courses and | 12 | | accelerated bachelor's degrees; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago has grown and | 14 | | continues to grow exponentially with the creation of the Walter | 15 | | and Maxine Christopher Center for Learning and Leadership, the | 16 | | College of Business, the College of Graduate and Innovative | 17 | | Programs, and the Center for Global Outreach; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago continues to make | 19 | | significant contributions to underserved populations in | 20 | | Illinois through its dedication to servant leadership; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Concordia University Chicago equips men and women | 2 | | to serve and lead with integrity, creativity, competence, and | 3 | | compassion in a diverse, interconnected, and increasingly | 4 | | urbanized church, State, and world; therefore, be it
| 5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 6 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate the date | 7 | | of October 12, 2013 as Concordia University Chicago Day in the | 8 | | State of Illinois in recognition of the school's role in | 9 | | shaping the lives of countless students throughout its history; | 10 | | and be it further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 | | presented to Concordia University Chicago as a symbol of our | 13 | | respect and esteem.
