| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | 3 |
| learned with sadness of the death of Arnold E. Clayton, the | 4 |
| former mayor of Princeton, on Sunday, July 11, 2004; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Arnold E. Clayton was born on December 18, 1926 in | 6 |
| Cameron to Clifford O. and Eunice (Andrews) Clayton; he married | 7 |
| Ruth Everson Eckard on July 23, 1982 in Princeton; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Mayor Clayton valiantly served his country during | 9 |
| World War II in the U.S. Navy; and
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Mayor Clayton served on the Bureau County Board | 11 |
| from 1990 to 1995, as chairman from 1992 to 1994, and he served | 12 |
| as mayor of Princeton from 1995 to 1999; and
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Mayor Clayton was a member of the Princeton | 14 |
| Woodworkers Club, St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Princeton, | 15 |
| American Legion Post 125, and Princeton Moose Lodge 1339; and
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Arnold E. Clayton has been deeply | 17 |
| felt by many, especially his wife, Ruth Everson Eckard; his | 18 |
| son, Barry (Jackie); his daughter, Karen (Chuck) Hanson; his | 19 |
| stepson, G. Whitney Eckard; his stepdaughter, Quinta (Gary) | 20 |
| Morton; his sister, Kay (Bill) Behrens; his brothers, James | 21 |
| (Beverly) Clayton, Dean (Gisela) Clayton, and Richard Clayton; | 22 |
| his four grandchildren; his five stepgrandchildren; and his | 23 |
| nieces and nephews; he was preceded in death by his parents; | 24 |
| two sisters, Bonnie Harris and Maureen Shannon; two brothers, | 25 |
| Charles Clayton and Pete Clayton; and one granddaughter; | 26 |
| therefore, be it | 27 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL | 28 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 29 |
| Arnold E. Clayton, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his |
