| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate the citizens of | 4 |
| Streamwood as they celebrate the 50th anniversary of the | 5 |
| incorporation of the community; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Streamwood's 50th anniversary will be | 7 |
| commemorated at the 14th annual Summer Celebration at Hoosier | 8 |
| Grove Park, named after the former farming community where | 9 |
| Streamwood is now
located; and | 10 |
| WHEREAS, Events will include children's rides and crafts, | 11 |
| the business expo, and performances by rock bands "The | 12 |
| StingRays" and "Modern Day Romeos"; and | 13 |
| WHEREAS,
This year's theme, "Fifty and Fabulous," will be | 14 |
| reflected during the Saturday parade; parade marshals will | 15 |
| include three pioneers of Streamwood's earliest days, Irene | 16 |
| Curtis and Lois and George Venzke, who helped turn the village | 17 |
| from a collection of housing developments into a true | 18 |
| community; and
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, When Irene Curtis and her late husband, Arthur, | 20 |
| and Lois and George Venzke moved to Streamwood in 1958, only | 21 |
| months after its incorporation, they found the developers |

| running the village and catering to business interests; | 2 |
| affordable housing was what moved them and other families from | 3 |
| other cities; there were no schools, stores, or other services | 4 |
| in the early years of the village;
both Irene Curtis and Lois | 5 |
| Venzke became strongly involved in trying to persuade | 6 |
| Elgin-based school district U-46 to open schools nearer to | 7 |
| Streamwood, but Streamwood did not even have a high school | 8 |
| until 1980;
and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, George Venzke helped establish the Poplar Creek | 10 |
| Public Library in the village and served as a trustee for 10 | 11 |
| years; he also served the village as a member of the zoning | 12 |
| board of appeals; and Lois Venzke continues to serve on the | 13 |
| village's human-relations commission; and
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Streamwood has a population of nearly 36,500 | 15 |
| people; it is located 33 miles northwest of Chicago, just | 16 |
| minutes from O'Hare Airport, and is a steadily growing | 17 |
| community; therefore, be it
| 18 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 19 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 20 |
| congratulate the men, women, and children of Streamwood as they | 21 |
| celebrate the 50th anniversary of their community; and be it | 22 |
| further

| presented to Billie D. Roth, Village President of Streamwood, | 3 |
