| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Helen Jean Sloan McClain of Woodstock, | 4 | | who passed away on May 16, 2015; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Helen McClain was born in Spearfish, South Dakota | 6 | | on August 28, 1926 to Harold Dewitt and Pamelia Arbuckle Sloan; | 7 | | she was raised on the homestead ranch her father started 40 | 8 | | miles northwest of Belle Fourche, South Dakota that included | 9 | | the corner stone of South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana; she was | 10 | | valedictorian of her high school class and graduated from the | 11 | | University of Nebraska, where she studied chemistry and | 12 | | bacteriology; she married Arthur "Art" Wayne McClain in | 13 | | Lincoln, Nebraska on November 26, 1947; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, After graduation in 1948, Helen McClain moved to | 15 | | Chicago; she worked in the laboratories at DuPont and Loyola | 16 | | Medical School; she stopped working in 1949 to raise her | 17 | | family; she and her family moved to Woodstock in 1957; in 1975, | 18 | | she returned to work at the McClain Corporation where she held | 19 | | the position of Business Manager (aka "Supreme Commander"), | 20 | | retiring in 1990; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Helen McClain loved golf and won several women's | 22 | | championships at the Woodstock Country Club, where she and Art |

| 1 | | were members for over 50 years; she was also a member of | 2 | | several Bridge clubs, playing until recently; her travels | 3 | | included Europe, Scotland, Australia, Japan, Canada, Mexico, | 4 | | and nearly every state; she was a member of several book clubs | 5 | | and was a founding member of the first women's investment club | 6 | | in Woodstock, at a time when such things were not common; she | 7 | | was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Woodstock for over 50 | 8 | | years; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Helen McClain was preceded in death by her | 10 | | husband, Art; her parents; and her siblings, Harold, Jr., | 11 | | George, and infant, Rose Marie; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Helen McClain is survived by her 3 children, Kelly | 13 | | (Peggy) McClain, Margaret McClain, and Scott (Renee) McClain; | 14 | | her grandchildren, Tony (Tammi) Halda, Christy (Steve) Sturm, | 15 | | Andrew (Crystal) McClain, Rhienna (Edward) Trevino, Conner | 16 | | McClain, and Abbey McClain; her great-grandchildren, Joseph, | 17 | | Jade, Maggie, Steven, Henry, William, Ella, Chelsea, Elyse, and | 18 | | Emmit; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 20 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 21 | | Helen Jean Sloan McClain, and extend our sincere condolences to | 22 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 23 | | further
