| 2 | | WHEREAS, It is important to honor those who served in the | 3 | | Armed Forces of the United States and to honor those who serve | 4 | | those who protected our nation; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1914, the Veterans of Foreign Wars | 6 | | of the United States Auxiliary was formed to serve the | 7 | | veterans of this country and to serve our communities in honor | 8 | | of the sacrifices and the commitment of every man and woman who | 9 | | has served in uniform; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, The VFW Auxiliary is one of the nation's oldest | 11 | | veterans' service organizations with members consisting of | 12 | | relatives of those who served in a location of foreign | 13 | | conflict; nearly 470,000 members in more than 3,600 | 14 | | auxiliaries nationwide volunteer millions of hours and raise | 15 | | millions of dollars to fund charitable projects that benefit | 16 | | veterans, military service personnel, and their families; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Jean Hamil of Orlando, Florida was elected to the | 18 | | office of National President of the VFW of the United States | 19 | | Auxiliary at its 108th National Convention in Kansas City, | 20 | | Missouri; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, A Life Member of East Seminole County Auxiliary |

| 1 | | 10139, Jean Hamil joined on the eligibility of her father, | 2 | | George W. Nunnery, a Korean War veteran who served in the U.S. | 3 | | Navy from 1952 to 1973; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Jean Hamil has served the Auxiliary in several | 5 | | capacities, including as Auxiliary, District, and Department | 6 | | (state) President; on the national level, she has served as | 7 | | National Guard, National Chaplain, National Conductress, | 8 | | National Junior Vice-President, National Senior | 9 | | Vice-President, National District Council Member, and National | 10 | | Director of the Membership Program; she is a Life Member of the | 11 | | VFW National Home for Children and a member of the Military | 12 | | Order of the Cootie Auxiliary (MOCA); and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Jean Hamil is employed as a manager of Food | 14 | | Safety & Environmental Compliance for A. Duda & Sons, Inc.; | 15 | | and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, In her spare time, Jean Hamil enjoys quilting, | 17 | | spending time with friends, and traveling; she belongs to a | 18 | | small group of "Quilting Angels" who make quilts for veterans | 19 | | at the Orlando VA Healthcare Center, Quilts of Valor-Orange | 20 | | and Seminole counties, and for children temporarily located at | 21 | | Safe House and seniors in Seminole County; and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Jean Hamil has dedicated her life to the VFW and |

| 1 | | Auxiliary members working together to provide service to those | 2 | | who defended our nation; therefore, be it
| 3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 4 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 5 | | we commend Jean Hamil on her service as the National President | 6 | | of the VFW of the United States Auxiliary; and be it further
| 7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 8 | | presented to Jean Hamil as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
