| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Dorothy D. "Dottie" Palombo of Lake | 4 | | Forest, who passed away on July 21, 2019; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dorothy Palombo was born in Mountain City, Georgia | 6 | | on August 31, 1933 and grew up in South Carolina; she moved to | 7 | | the Midwest in 1952 to study social services at the University | 8 | | of Wisconsin; she received her master's degree in social work | 9 | | from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1958; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Dorothy Palombo worked in Chicago settlement | 11 | | houses, as a trainer for VISTA, and as office manager for the | 12 | | Chicago 8 Conspiracy defendants, which contributed to a life of | 13 | | social activism and a commitment to community development; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, In 1970, Dorothy Palombo joined the staff of the | 15 | | Josselyn Center for Mental Health in Northfield as an organizer | 16 | | for community-based adolescent services; she subsequently was | 17 | | director of the center's project to expand services and support | 18 | | for those with chronic psychiatric disorders; she became | 19 | | executive director in 1983, a post she held until her | 20 | | retirement in 1995; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Dorothy Palombo enjoyed a lifetime of joy in |

| 1 | | service, music, and travel with her husband of 60 years, | 2 | | Joseph; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Dorothy Palombo is survived by her husband, and | 4 | | her stepdaughter, Karen Visser; therefore, be it
| 5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 6 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 7 | | Dorothy D. "Dottie" Palombo and extend our sincere condolences | 8 | | to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be | 9 | | it further
| 10 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 11 | | presented to the family of Dorothy Palombo as an expression of | 12 | | our deepest sympathy.
