| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of James H. Cross of Champaign, who passed | 4 | | away on June 1, 2015; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, James Cross was born on January 11, 1943 in | 6 | | Urbana; his parents were Everett and Lillian Cross; he married | 7 | | Linda K. Sawyer on January 9, 1965; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, James Cross served his country as a member of the | 9 | | United States National Guard; and | 10 | | WHEREAS, James Cross graduated from Urbana High School in | 11 | | 1961; after high school, he went to work for his father at the | 12 | | H.S. Grindley Company, where he delivered, installed, and fixed | 13 | | appliances; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, In 1970, James Cross joined the Champaign Fire | 15 | | Department, where he served as a firefighter for almost 30 | 16 | | years until his retirement in 1999 at the rank of lieutenant; | 17 | | and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Following his retirement, James Cross expanded | 19 | | Huber's West End, a store he purchased in 1989 so that he would | 20 | | have "something to do" on his days off from the fire |

| 1 | | department; he also expanded his car collection and enjoyed all | 2 | | kinds of cars, from roadsters to speedsters to touring cars; he | 3 | | was also a fixture in Champaign-Urbana's 4th of July Parade, | 4 | | winning awards every year for his beautifully restored cars; | 5 | | and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, James Cross is survived by his wife, Linda; 2 | 7 | | children, Melissa Hildreth and Chris Cross; and 5 | 8 | | grandchildren; therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | 11 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of James H. Cross; and be | 12 | | it further
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 | | presented to the family of James Cross as an expression of our | 15 | | sympathy.
