| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of John | 4 | | Eddie "Brother John" Goodwin, who passed away on November 13, | 5 | | 2017; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, John Goodwin was born in Argo to James Nolan and | 7 | | Willa Celestra Goodwin-Smith on September 22, 1940; he | 8 | | graduated from Argo High School, where he played basketball and | 9 | | football; he then studied art at the Art Institute; he served | 10 | | in the United States Army for two years; he married Tula Elaine | 11 | | Jones on September 22, 1968; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, John Goodwin was a songwriter, poet, inventor, and | 13 | | singer; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, John Goodwin was active in the church; he served | 15 | | as the choir president and a youth mentor; he joined the | 16 | | ministry in 1973 and later discovered his passion for outreach | 17 | | through street ministry; he helped grow ministries by teaching | 18 | | the importance of running an effective outreach ministry; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, John Goodwin was preceded in death by his | 20 | | siblings, Patricia Marie Walker, Emma LaJune Roseberry, Doris | 21 | | Corine Jackson, Flora Teresa Goodwin, and Matthew William |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, John Goodwin is survived by his children, Deshaun | 3 | | Lynette (Rickey) Wallace, Kristy Renee, and John Earl Nolan | 4 | | (Chassidy); his grandchildren, John Nolan, Trinity Tinae, and | 5 | | Jaida Jackson; his siblings, James Nathaniel (Lynn), Turner Lee | 6 | | (Ethel), and Willa Beatrice Mills, and his many cousins, | 7 | | nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 9 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 10 | | mourn the passing of John Eddie "Brother John" Goodwin and | 11 | | extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all | 12 | | who knew and loved him; and be it further
