| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Fox River was central to the lives of Native | 3 | | Americans inhabiting the Fox River Valley in Wisconsin and | 4 | | Illinois for millennia, providing an abundance of food and | 5 | | water to wildlife and those native populations; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Fox River was central to the lives of early | 7 | | settlers of the Fox River Valley, providing a source of water | 8 | | and power to mill the grains to feed those settlers, saw the | 9 | | lumber to shelter those settlers, and drive the early | 10 | | machinery, which formed the commercial and industrial base | 11 | | that gave first growth to the community; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, The Fox River, once a fine fishery and source of | 13 | | public water, became burdened with the uncontrolled discharge | 14 | | of industrial, commercial and municipal wastes, with the | 15 | | resulting pollution threatening the health and welfare of all | 16 | | populations of the Fox River, including human and wildlife; | 17 | | and | 18 | | WHEREAS, Sustained and increasingly diligent and effective | 19 | | efforts have been made over the past century to reduce and | 20 | | eliminate pollution and changes to the Fox River's natural | 21 | | shorelines; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, The Fox River has been largely freed from its | 2 | | burden of pollution and once again has become a safe source of | 3 | | recreation and reliable public water supply, with its fish and | 4 | | wildlife population in clear recovery; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, The historic, present, and future value of this | 6 | | unique and precious natural resource to the state and all | 7 | | other communities within and beyond the Fox River Valley is of | 8 | | the utmost importance; therefore, be it | 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 10 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 11 | | we declare September 21, 2024 as It's Our Fox River Day; and be | 12 | | it further | 13 | | RESOLVED, That we encourage events, public and private, | 14 | | that honor and celebrate the life and well-being of the Fox | 15 | | River for the benefit of those of us today and for the | 16 | | generations to come. |
