| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Charles "Chuck" Anderson, a resident | 4 | | of Maywood for 75 years, who passed away in late November of | 5 | | 2021; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Charles Anderson was an educator for 32 years; | 7 | | for the majority of those years, he worked at Proviso East High | 8 | | School, which was his high school alma mater; he began his | 9 | | teaching career at Emerson School in Maywood and taught for a | 10 | | short time in Chicago Public Schools; he taught physical | 11 | | education and was a football and wrestling coach at Proviso | 12 | | East; as assistant dean, he was one of the first Black | 13 | | administrators at Proviso East and served for four years; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Charles Anderson was co-owner with his wife of | 15 | | the Che-Lis Ice Cream parlor, named after his two oldest | 16 | | daughters, located in downtown Maywood on Fifth Avenue; | 17 | | additionally, he was the co-owner with his stepfather of Minor & | 18 | | Sons Auto Body & Repair shop, located on 13th and St. Charles | 19 | | Avenue in Maywood; he also owned apartment buildings in | 20 | | Maywood for over fifty years; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Charles Anderson was one of the founding members | 22 | | of the Maywood Recreation Center and was instrumental in |

| 1 | | starting its afterschool mentoring program in the early 1970s; | 2 | | he was a member of the prominent social club, The Maywood | 3 | | Horsemen, a group known for hosting parties, local | 4 | | fundraising, and sponsoring youth activities, such as the | 5 | | Baseball Little League in the community; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, After retiring from teaching, Charles Anderson | 7 | | dedicated more of his time as a public servant and served as a | 8 | | village trustee for three terms; following his final term as a | 9 | | trustee, he became chairman of the Board of the Fire and Police | 10 | | Commission for several years; he served as a member and former | 11 | | chairman of the Maywood Rotary Club and was a member of the | 12 | | Masonic Jeptha Lodge #90 PHA of
Maywood; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Charles Anderson spent his life uplifting and | 14 | | educating others and became a mentor to numerous young men and | 15 | | former students throughout the years; he lived life to the | 16 | | fullest and deeply enjoyed spending time with family and | 17 | | friends; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, Charles Anderson is survived by his three | 19 | | daughters, Cheryl, LisaMarea, and Daphne Anderson; his two | 20 | | sisters, Glenda Minor and Vonnie Rene Anderson; his nieces and | 21 | | nephews; his cousins; and his extended family members and | 22 | | friends; therefore, be it

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 3 | | Charles "Chuck" Anderson and extend our sincere condolences to | 4 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 5 | | further
| 6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 7 | | presented to the family of Charles Anderson as an expression | 8 | | of our deepest sympathy.
