| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Nicholas G. Byron of Edwardsville, who | 4 | | passed away on August 4, 2019; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Nicholas Byron was born in Lansing, Michigan to | 6 | | George and Frances (Antonopoulos/Damaskos) Byron on October | 7 | | 28, 1929; he earned his Bachelor of Science from John Hopkins | 8 | | University in 1953 and married Mary Theodosia Barnsback in | 9 | | Elkton, Maryland on May 2, 1953; he served in the United States | 10 | | Army from 1953 to 1955 and was honorably discharged with the | 11 | | rank of 1st Lieutenant; he earned his Juris Doctorate from | 12 | | Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri in | 13 | | 1958; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Nicholas Byron and his family settled in | 15 | | Edwardsville in 1961; he served in several elected offices, | 16 | | including as an alderman of the city of Edwardsville from 1968 | 17 | | to 1972, as Madison County State's Attorney from 1972 to 1980, | 18 | | as circuit court judge for the Third Judicial Circuit in | 19 | | Madison County from 1980 to 2018, and as chief judge of the | 20 | | circuit court from 1994 to 1998; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Nicholas Byron was an active member of the | 22 | | Illinois & Missouri State Bar Associations; he also served as |

| 1 | | vice president of the National District Attorney's Association | 2 | | and as president of the Illinois State's Attorney Association; | 3 | | he served on the board of directors for the Edwardsville | 4 | | National Bank & Trust for many years; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Nicholas Byron was preceded in death by his wife | 6 | | of 64 years, Mary; his son, Andrew George Byron; and his | 7 | | parents; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Nicholas Byron is survived by his sons, Dr. | 9 | | Jonathon Roy (Didda) and Christopher William (Kathleen) Byron; | 10 | | his daughters, Mary "Mimi" Elizabeth and Barbara Ellen Byron; | 11 | | and his grandchildren, Evelyn Anna Allen, Daniel William | 12 | | Garcia, Christopher William Byron Jr., Caroline Frances Byron, | 13 | | and Andrew George Byron II; therefore, be it
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 16 | | Nicholas G. Byron and extend our sincere condolences to his | 17 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 18 | | further
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 20 | | presented to the family of Nicholas Byron as an expression of | 21 | | our deepest sympathy.
