| 2 | | WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives wishes to | 3 | | congratulate the owners of Old Fashioned Candies, Sandra | 4 | | Figatner, Donna Greenwald, and Lynn White, on receiving the | 5 | | 35th Annual Charles E. Piper Award from the Berwyn Development | 6 | | Corporation; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, The Charles E. Piper Award is awarded annually to | 8 | | individuals in recognition of their business achievements and | 9 | | contribution to the economic vitality of the City of Berwyn; | 10 | | and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Old Fashioned Candies was founded in Chicago by | 12 | | George and Theresa Brunslik in August, 1969; In 1976, the | 13 | | company moved to Berwyn, where they are still proudly going | 14 | | strong today; the family business has since been passed down to | 15 | | the second generation, sisters Sandra, Lynn, and Donna, with | 16 | | the third generation as part of the staff; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, All Old Fashion Candies products are manufactured | 18 | | out of the Berwyn location and sold at their two locations, | 19 | | Berwyn and Indian Head Park; On August 13, 2019, Sandra, Lynn | 20 | | and Donna celebrated 50 years of Old Fashioned Candies being in | 21 | | business; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, While leading busy personal and professional | 2 | | lives, Sandra, Lynn, and Donna have always found time to | 3 | | contribute to their community; Old Fashioned Candies | 4 | | participates in Berwyn's
Taste of Cermak and the Houby Day | 5 | | Parade every year; every January, Old Fashioned Candies hosts a | 6 | | Candlelight Bowl
with 100 percent of the proceeds going to a | 7 | | deserving recipient; Over $100,000 in proceeds has been donated | 8 | | over the course of the event's
27 years; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, The sisters and the rest of the Old Fashioned | 10 | | Candies teams also collect and send supplies to the Fisher
| 11 | | House and local animal rescues, participate in Career Days at | 12 | | the local schools and Berwyn's summer
camp, donate to local | 13 | | fire departments, honor the teachers at Morton West High School | 14 | | for Teacher
Appreciation Day with a chocolate fountain, provide | 15 | | home cooked meals for individuals and families that
come in | 16 | | during the holidays, and donate and volunteer with United Way | 17 | | and the Special
Olympics; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Each year around Easter, Old Fashioned Candies | 19 | | runs a raffle and donates Giant George, a 3-foot chocolate | 20 | | rabbit, with all proceeds going to the Muscular Dystrophy | 21 | | Association; every December, Mr. and Mrs. Claus
visit Old | 22 | | Fashioned Candies free of charge for anyone who wants to visit; | 23 | | and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Sandra Figatner is a graduate of Morton College; | 2 | | she is the proud mother of two children and the wife of the | 3 | | late William
Figatner of longtime Berwyn business | 4 | | Figatner-Scott Co.; Donna Greenwald is a proud mother of three | 5 | | and grandmother of six; she recently retired from UPS after 31 | 6 | | years
of service, while also working full-time at the candy | 7 | | store; Lynn White is a proud mother of one and is the president
| 8 | | of her bowling league; she has five years under her belt as a | 9 | | past PTA president and is in the PTA hall of
fame; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, The Old Fashioned Candies' doors are always open | 11 | | to anybody that wants to stop in, chat, and sample
some candy; | 12 | | therefore, be it | 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 14 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 15 | | we congratulate Old Fashioned Candies on receiving the Charles | 16 | | E. Piper Award; and be it further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to Sandra Figatner, Donna Greenwald, and Lynn White | 19 | | as an expression of our esteem and respect.
