| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Sadie Frances Picarda, who passed away on | 4 | | June 25, 2015; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Sadie Picarda was born on January 24, 1929 to | 6 | | Gonzie
and Lola Coleman; she attended Coleman Elementary School | 7 | | and Dunbar Vocational High School,
where she majored in | 8 | | dressmaking; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Sadie Picarda used her vocational dressmaking | 10 | | skills throughout her extensive working
career with Wilson | 11 | | Garments; during her time there, she served as President of
her | 12 | | Local International Ladies Garment Workers Union; she advanced
| 13 | | to become Head Sample Dressmaker, retiring in 1992; after | 14 | | retirement, she remained active and continued in her chosen | 15 | | profession, teaching dressmaking in her home and making | 16 | | countless garments for herself and for proms, weddings, fashion | 17 | | shows, and special occasions; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Sadie Picarda enjoyed spending time with her - | 19 | | family and friends; she loved exploring new places and | 20 | | attending cultural and
art events; she traveled to Europe, the | 21 | | Caribbean, and various locations
throughout the United States; | 22 | | she was a long-time member of the Chicago

| 1 | | Chicago Art Institute; she loved to entertain and cook, and on | 2 | | any given weekend, she could be found
entertaining friends and | 3 | | family; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Sadie Picarda is survived by her siblings, Helen | 5 | | Dawson, Dorothy
Green, and Danny Robinson; her children, Eric | 6 | | Coleman, Sheila Collins, Robert
Davenport, Tyrone Dalton, and | 7 | | Jerome Dalton; her grandchildren, Marla Coleman
Wiley (Ryan), | 8 | | Jeree Dalton, and Tyrah Dalton; her great-grandson, Ryan G. | 9 | | Wiley; and a
host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; | 10 | | therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 13 | | Sadie Frances Picarda, and extend our sincere condolences to | 14 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 15 | | further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to the family of Sadie Picarda as an expression of | 18 | | our deepest sympathy.
