| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Larry Hayes "Willie" Wilcox of | 4 | | Springfield, who passed away on December 11, 2023; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Larry Wilcox, the son of Warren and Doris (Hayes) | 6 | | Wilcox, was born in Springfield on February 9, 1949; he was | 7 | | raised in Palmer, where he was a member of Advent Christian | 8 | | Church; he graduated from Morrisonville High School in 1967; | 9 | | he married Ruth Kathryn Ferrill on June 7, 1968, and they later | 10 | | divorced; he attended Lincoln Land Community College; he was a | 11 | | member of the first graduating class of Sangamon State | 12 | | University, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in History in May | 13 | | 1972; he later earned his Master of Arts in Accountancy from | 14 | | the University of Illinois Springfield in December 1995; and | 15 | | WHEREAS, Larry Wilcox served in the 183rd Fighter Wing, a | 16 | | unit of the Illinois Air National Guard, for over 30 years | 17 | | before retiring at the rank of chief master sergeant; he was | 18 | | awarded the Meritorious Service Medal; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Larry Wilcox was a certified public accountant | 20 | | and a certified internal auditor; he worked as a civilian in | 21 | | the position of internal auditor for the Illinois Army | 22 | | National Guard; he continued his career as a certified |

| 1 | | internal auditor at the National Bank of Hillsboro, the | 2 | | Illinois Department of Transportation, and the Illinois | 3 | | Commerce Commission; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Larry Wilcox was a member of the Illinois CPA | 5 | | Society and the American Contract Bridge League, achieving the | 6 | | level of gold life master; he belonged to Morrisonville | 7 | | American Legion Leslie-Reddick Post 721, where he volunteered | 8 | | to march in many parades and to assist with military funerals; | 9 | | he was also a blood donor, donating many gallons throughout | 10 | | his life; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Larry Wilcox was an avid sports fan, especially | 12 | | of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Fighting Illini basketball | 13 | | team, and he attended the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, | 14 | | Georgia and the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia; he | 15 | | enjoyed playing slow-pitch softball and league bowling for | 16 | | many years; he also loved rock & roll music and enjoyed playing | 17 | | the bass guitar, participating in two bands over the course of | 18 | | his life, The Sultans in high school and the band Traxx later | 19 | | in life; and | 20 | | WHEREAS, Larry Wilcox was very proud of his grandchildren | 21 | | and loved spending time with them, and he was known for wearing | 22 | | his "Illini Grandpa" hat with pride; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Larry Wilcox was preceded in death by his | 2 | | parents; his maternal grandparents, Lee and Gladys Hayes; and | 3 | | his paternal grandparents, Orval and Rena Wilcox; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Larry Wilcox is survived by his daughter, Christy | 5 | | (Clayton) Bloome; his grandchildren, Jake (Rachel Dougherty) | 6 | | Bloome and Rebecca (Dustin Craig) Bloome; his | 7 | | great-granddaughter, Amelia Bloome; his brother, Bruce (Donna) | 8 | | Wilcox; his nieces, Bobbie (Hank) Harker and Laura (Andrew) | 9 | | Ahrens; his great-nephews and great-niece, Hayden, Brody, and | 10 | | Elayna Harker; therefore, be it | 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 13 | | Larry Hayes "Willie" Wilcox and extend our sincere condolences | 14 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | 15 | | it further | 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to the family of Larry Wilcox as an expression of our | 18 | | deepest sympathy. |
