| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Anthony | 4 | | Richard "Tony" Scruggs, who passed away on April 6, 2024; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Tony Scruggs was born to Richard and Elizabeth | 6 | | Scruggs in Bethesda, Maryland on April 2, 1959; and | 7 | | WHEREAS, Tony Scruggs worked as a truck driver for Federal | 8 | | Pipe and Steel for most of his adult life; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, Tony Scruggs was passionate about cooking; he was | 10 | | a barbecue master who made a name for himself locally, winning | 11 | | contests and running a few different restaurants over the | 12 | | years; he was a contestant on season two of the TV show | 13 | | MasterChef before landing a position as executive chef at a | 14 | | famous BBQ eatery near Wrigley Field in Chicago; and | 15 | | WHEREAS, Tony Scruggs loved his animals, his garden, his | 16 | | yard, and the sunset; he enjoyed taking nightly country drives | 17 | | with his wife while listening to their favorite songs, | 18 | | fishing, and collecting antiques, especially fishing lures; | 19 | | and | 20 | | WHEREAS, Tony Scruggs was a family man who loved taking |

| 1 | | his grandchildren on adventures; he will be remembered for his | 2 | | bright smile and his laughter filling any room he was in; and | 3 | | WHEREAS, Tony Scruggs was preceded in death by his parents | 4 | | and his sister, Kristine; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Tony Scruggs is survived by his wife of 46 years, | 6 | | Cheryl Scruggs; his children, Sarah (Tom) Sullivan, Tony | 7 | | (Janelle Ditta) Scruggs, and Selina (Brad) Manning; his | 8 | | grandchildren, Max Riegel, Ella Sullivan, Monty Manning, Noah | 9 | | Manning, and Isaiah Ditta; his brother, Paul Scruggs; his | 10 | | sister-in-law, Lisa (Joe) Trznadel; and his nephews, Mychel | 11 | | Trznadel and Connor Trznadel; therefore, be it | 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 13 | | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 14 | | we mourn the passing of Anthony Richard "Tony" Scruggs and | 15 | | extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all | 16 | | who knew and loved him; and be it further | 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of Tony Scruggs as an expression of our | 19 | | deepest sympathy. |
