| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Dewane "Dewey" Steele of Rock Island, | 4 | | who passed away on February 17, 2024; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dewane Steele was born in Rock Island to Henry | 6 | | and Florence Steele on November 20, 1937; he graduated from | 7 | | Rock Island High School in 1955 and joined the U.S. Air Force; | 8 | | he married Carol Schmidt Lowry on April 7, 1979; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, Dewane Steele started his career with Illinois | 10 | | Bell as a telephone installer repairman and was promoted to | 11 | | management in 1970; he was transferred to AT&T after the | 12 | | divestiture in 1985 and retired from AT&T in 1988; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Dewane Steele was a lifelong fan of the Chicago | 14 | | Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Rock Island High School sports; in | 15 | | his later years, he was able to enjoy time working at Highland | 16 | | Springs Golf Course and would often say how he loved watching | 17 | | the golf course wake up; he valued his family and friends; he | 18 | | was a hilarious storyteller and had a kind heart; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Dewane Steele was preceded in death by his | 20 | | parents and his sisters, Wanda Johnson and Marylou Hartsock; | 21 | | and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Dewane Steele is survived by his wife, Carol; his | 2 | | children, Beth (Jeff) Friichtenicht, Brenda (Shawn) Herman, | 3 | | Diana Steele Meador, Danny (Dusky), and Darrin (Sothy); 13 | 4 | | grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; therefore, be it | 5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 6 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 7 | | Dewane "Dewey" Steele and extend our sincere condolences to | 8 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 9 | | further | 10 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 11 | | presented to the family of Dewane Steele as an expression of | 12 | | our deepest sympathy. |
