| SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 |
| learn of the death of Marian Dockery of North Chicago, who | 4 |
| passed away on April 15, 2010; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, She was born on June 4, 1932 to Elizabeth and | 6 |
| Aaron Brown in Chicago; Marian was one of nine children born to | 7 |
| this union; she grew up on the South side of Chicago and at a | 8 |
| very young age she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and | 9 |
| Savior; Marian joined First Corinthian Missionary Baptist | 10 |
| Church in 1981 under the late Pastor Peter Goudeaux Jr; she was | 11 |
| a faithful member for 29 years until her home going under her | 12 |
| former Pastor Eugene Roberson; Marian was an active church | 13 |
| member and had volunteered her time with the Church's Soup | 14 |
| Kitchen ministry; and
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Marian graduated from Wendell Phillips High | 16 |
| School in Chicago in 1950 and shortly thereafter married the | 17 |
| love of her life, Alfonso E. Dockery Sr.; she also attended the | 18 |
| College of Lake County, where she completed studies in | 19 |
| sociology, nutrition, and communications; and | 20 |
| WHEREAS, Before her retirement in 1987, Marian worked for | 21 |
| Baxter Healthcare in Deerfield as an Accounts Payable | 22 |
| generalist and retired as the first African-American teller of |

| the Baxter Credit Union; from 1998 to 2001, Marian was the | 2 |
| Project Success Coordinator for North Chicago School District | 3 |
| 187 and worked diligently with the local governing board, local | 4 |
| community leaders, educators, parents, and State social | 5 |
| service agencies in bringing educational and social services | 6 |
| and programs to the children and families within the school | 7 |
| district; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, In 2003 Marian became the Vice-President and | 9 |
| bookkeeper of her daughter's business, Meeting Essentials by | 10 |
| D'esign, and key advisor to the family business as well; Marian | 11 |
| not only loved her immediate family but also extended that love | 12 |
| to her community and friends; Marian enjoyed life, sharing and | 13 |
| giving to others; she loved sowing the wisdom, knowledge, and | 14 |
| love that God gave her into the hearts of everyone she came in | 15 |
| contact with, especially youth; and
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Marian was preceded in her home going transition | 17 |
| by her beloved husband, Alfonso E. Dockery Sr.; her parents, | 18 |
| Elizabeth and Aaron Brown; her sisters, Altherea Watson, Bertha | 19 |
| and Elizabeth Brown, and Vera Conner; her brother, Aaron | 20 |
| "Junior" Brown; her great-nephew, Benjamin Miller; her niece, | 21 |
| Dephine Sanders; and her nephews, Darrell and Cornell Sanders | 22 |
| Jr. and Lemuel Henry Chambers; and
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, Left to cherish her loving memory are her son, |

| Alfonso Eugene Dockery Jr.; her daughters, Cynthia Renee | 2 |
| Dockery and Angela Marie Dockery; her brothers, Edward, James | 3 |
| (Johnnie) Brown, Robert (Trudy) Brown, and Charles Brown; her | 4 |
| very best and dearest friend of over 55 years, Mary Hamilton; | 5 |
| her special God-Grandson, Essex Johns IV; her church family; | 6 |
| and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and her lovable | 7 |
| 110-pound puppy-dog, "Sparkie"; therefore, be it
| 8 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | 9 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 10 |
| her family and friends, the passing of Marian Dockery; and be | 11 |
| it further
| 12 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 |
| presented to the family of Marian Dockery as a symbol of our | 14 |
| sincere sympathy.
