| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate were deeply | 3 | | saddened to learn of the death of Barbara Adkins of Batavia, | 4 | | who passed away on July 3, 2012; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Barbara Adkins was born in Crouse-Irving Hospital | 6 | | in Syracuse, New York, on April 23, 1928; she attended high | 7 | | school in Rantoul, Illinois, graduated from Illinois State | 8 | | Normal University in August 1948, and briefly taught in Malden, | 9 | | Illinois; she married Don Adkins in August 1950; she earned her | 10 | | Masters from the State University of New York at Buffalo in | 11 | | 1966; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Barbara Adkins joined the School District 129 | 13 | | teaching staff in 1960, and taught mathematics at Jefferson, | 14 | | Washington, and North Campus, until she retired as the Chair of | 15 | | the Mathematics Department at West Aurora High School in 1992; | 16 | | she also taught evening classes in mathematics at Aurora | 17 | | University; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Barbara Adkins was involved in many book clubs | 19 | | over the years, including AAUW and the Minerva Coterie; she was | 20 | | actively involved for many years in the Aurora Education | 21 | | Association; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Barbara Adkins was preceded in death by her | 2 | | husband, Don and her son, Gerard Joseph Adkins; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Barbara Adkins is survived by her children, | 4 | | Catherine Lynn (Ret. Admiral Rick) Ruehe, Charles Donald | 5 | | (Marianne Linn) Adkins, and William Francis (Mary Ellen) | 6 | | Adkins; and her grandchildren, Emily (Andrew) Ruehe Puckett and | 7 | | Eric Lyons (Amita Sung) Ruehe; therefore, be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | 9 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 10 | | Barbara Adkins, and we extend our sincere condolences to her | 11 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 12 | | further
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 | | presented to her family as an expression of our deepest | 15 | | sympathy.
