| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Jason Brown of Highland | 4 | | Park on the occasion of his performances at the 2014 Winter | 5 | | Olympics; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Jason Brown was born on December 15, 1994; he is | 7 | | the son of proud parents Steven Brown and Marla Kell Brown; he | 8 | | began skating at the age of 3 after being inspired by his older | 9 | | sister to get into the sport; in the spring of 2013, he, his | 10 | | coach, Kori Ade, and his other training mates relocated to | 11 | | Monument, Colorado to commence training at the Colorado Sports | 12 | | Center; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, On January 12, 2014, Jason Brown won the free | 14 | | skate (182.61) and the silver medal with a total score of | 15 | | 270.08 at the 2014 U.S. Figure Skating Championships; he was | 16 | | subsequently nominated to be on the 2014 United States Olympic | 17 | | team to compete in the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, On February 9, 2014, Jason Brown competed in the | 19 | | free skate of team event at the 2014 Winter Olympics; he earned | 20 | | 153.67, finished in 4th place, and earned 7 points for Team | 21 | | USA, helping the team win the bronze medal; on February 13, | 22 | | 2014, he competed in the men's short program, earning 86.00 and |

| 1 | | ending in 6th place, less than a point out of 3rd, going into | 2 | | the free skate; during the men's free skate on February 14, | 3 | | 2014, he earned a 152.37 and 238.37 overall, finishing in 9th | 4 | | place; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jason Brown was the recipient of the Athlete | 6 | | Alumni Ambassadors Award, the Ralph Potter Memorial award for | 7 | | Exceptional Ability and Achievement, and the President's | 8 | | Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Jason Brown is an enthusiastic supporter of | 10 | | tsunami relief efforts, the Susan G. Komen 3-Day, City Skate | 11 | | outreach program, and the Beyond Sports Foundation; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Jason Brown serves as a model of hard work, | 13 | | integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of | 14 | | Illinois; therefore, be it
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 16 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 17 | | we congratulate Jason Brown on the occasion of his performances | 18 | | at the 2014 Winter Olympics and wish him continued success and | 19 | | happiness in the future; and be it further
