HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Mary Lee Fleming on the occasion of her 90th birthday on July 20, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Mary Fleming was born in Camden, Mississippi on July 20, 1934; and

WHEREAS, Mary Fleming moved to the City of Chicago Heights in 1955 and has been a dedicated member of St. James CME Church in Chicago Heights since that time; and

WHEREAS, Mary Fleming has been happy to see her family grow to include six children, 15 grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and

WHEREAS, Mary Fleming worked in nursing at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights for over 30 years prior to her retirement; and

WHEREAS, Mary Fleming worked as a foster grandparent for Chicago Heights School District 170; and

WHEREAS, Mary Fleming has worked as an election judge and poll worker for several years, and she also enjoys her hobbies, attending to her flower garden and solving word search puzzles; and

WHEREAS, Mary Fleming has received many church and community awards and recognitions; and

WHEREAS, Mary Fleming received the 2019 Beacon Hill Family Reunion Pioneer Award for her outstanding contributions to the Beacon Hill community; and

WHEREAS, Mary Fleming was the invited guest of U.S. Congresswoman Jahana Hayes at the White House in January 2023; and

WHEREAS, Mary Fleming was married to the late K.D. Fleming Sr. for 49 years before his passing in 2002; and

WHEREAS, Mary Fleming still resides in the house that she and her late husband purchased 52 years ago in the Beacon Hill subdivision of Chicago Heights; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Mary Lee Fleming on her 90th birthday and wish her many more wonderful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mary Fleming as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
