| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are pleased to honor Timoteo "Tim" Vasquez of | 4 | | Hanover Park for his service to his country during World War | 5 | | II; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Timoteo Vasquez served as a United States Marine | 7 | | in Guadalcanal from 1942-1945; he trained as an aircraft | 8 | | mechanic and maintained the F4 Wildcat Fighter; he was attached | 9 | | to the VMF-112 Wolfpack Squadron; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Timoteo Vasquez and his fellow Marines fought at | 11 | | Guadalcanal in the Southern Solomon Islands with the objective | 12 | | of denying its use by the Japanese to threaten the supply and | 13 | | communication routes between the United States, Australia, and | 14 | | New Zealand; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, After Guadalcanal, Timoteo Vasquez spent time in | 16 | | the Philippines, Guam, and Okinawa; he was honorably discharged | 17 | | in November of 1945 and he settled in the Tri-Village area; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Timoteo Vasquez married Isabel, who has since | 19 | | passed, on September 24, 1948 in Manila, Philippines and they | 20 | | had 5 children, Tim Vasquez, Veronica Bargehr, Regina Heaney, | 21 | | Rene Vasquez, and the late Maria; he worked for 27 years for |

| 1 | | the Sara Lee Corporation; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Timoteo Vasquez traveled to Washington, D.C. in | 3 | | July of 2009 as part of the Honor Flight where World War II | 4 | | veterans visit their memorial; he was later honored by the | 5 | | Village of Hanover Park for his contributions when he received | 6 | | Honor Roll recognition and a brick to be placed within the | 7 | | Veteran's Memorial; therefore, be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 9 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 10 | | we honor Timoteo "Tim" Vasquez for his service to his country | 11 | | during World War II; and be it further
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to Timoteo Vasquez as an expression of our esteem and | 14 | | respect.
