| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Leslie | 4 | | Maxwell "Max" Scott II, who passed away on May 10, 2022; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Max Scott was born in Quincy to Leslie Maxwell | 6 | | Scott and Verla
Benscoter on October 18, 1931; he spent the | 7 | | best part
of his childhood in West Ridge, where he had a | 8 | | passion for fast horses; he received numerous
trophies at | 9 | | county fairs and other venues before changing his focus to | 10 | | motorbikes; he graduated from Maroa-Forsyth High School in | 11 | | Maroa, where he earned varsity letters in
football and track | 12 | | and claimed to have invented the safety blitz; he married Mary | 13 | | Helen Frederick and graduated from Lincoln College in Lincoln | 14 | | and Illinois State University, where he took degrees in speech | 15 | | pathology and
speech communication and where he was, as
he had | 16 | | been in high school, an accomplished stage actor; he attended | 17 | | graduate school at the University of Illinois, pursuing a | 18 | | master's
degree in psychiatric social work; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Max Scott went to work in the Lincoln State | 20 | | School for Disabled
Children; later, he became a speech | 21 | | pathologist for various Central Illinois school districts; he | 22 | | served special needs students not just in the
school house but | 23 | | also in his own home or their homes on weekends and evenings; |

| 1 | | later, he taught school at Maroa, directed the high school | 2 | | drama department, and served as the public address announcer | 3 | | at
high school football and basketball games; he also traveled | 4 | | across Central Illinois, serving small-town kids whose schools | 5 | | lacked adequate resources to
otherwise meet their special | 6 | | needs; and | 7 | | WHEREAS, Max Scott accepted a job as a consultant to the | 8 | | McGraw-Hill Book Company in 1966; he worked for McGraw-Hill | 9 | | for 25 years
and moved his family to Highland; in later years, | 10 | | he returned to Central Illinois and renewed his teaching | 11 | | certificate; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Max Scott enjoyed dancing with his wife, and he | 13 | | was a proud member of the Maroa-Forsyth Trojans M-club for | 14 | | over 73 years; he liked to
play the ponies at Cahokia or poker | 15 | | wherever he could find a game worthy of his skills; his | 16 | | longevity has been attributed by some to having disciplined | 17 | | himself for many years by adhering to a strict diet of biscuits | 18 | | and gravy, cigars, and scotch whiskey; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Max Scott was preceded in death by his wife of | 20 | | over 51 years, Mary; his sister, Bonnie Burden; his
brothers, | 21 | | Winfield and J.D.; and his sons, Maxie and James; and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Max Scott is survived by his
brother, Garett |

| 1 | | Scott; his son, Thomas Jefferson Scott, and wife, Betty Lau; | 2 | | his granddaughter, Ellen Scott, and her fiancé, Shayne | 3 | | Prapaislip;
Andrew Scott and his partner, Tia Bertrand; his | 4 | | granddaughter, Elena Scott, and
her mother, Lilia Lopez; his | 5 | | daughter-in-law, Shari Scott, and
granddaughter, Emma Scott; | 6 | | and numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 8 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 9 | | we mourn the passing of Leslie Maxwell "Max" Scott II and | 10 | | extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all | 11 | | who knew and loved him; and be it further
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to the family of Max Scott as an expression of our | 14 | | deepest sympathy.
