| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Ann Etter Jones, who passed away on | 4 | | February 9, 2024; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Ann Jones was born in Cairo to Georgia A. Jones | 6 | | and Prince Ivy Sr.; she attended Cairo High School; she earned | 7 | | an Associate of Applied Science, a degree in Mid-Management, | 8 | | and an Associate of Arts in Social/Human Support Services from | 9 | | Shawnee Community College, where she graduated with honors and | 10 | | was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa; she continued her education | 11 | | in social work at Southern Illinois University Carbondale; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Ann Jones was employed by the Shawnee Development | 13 | | Council, the Burkart Manufacturing Company, and Proctor & | 14 | | Gamble (P&G); and | 15 | | WHEREAS, Ann Jones was passionate about working with | 16 | | children at Lutheran Social Services, which inspired her to | 17 | | become a founding member of Responsible Empowering | 18 | | Action-Oriented Parents (R.E.A.P.), and her legacy will live | 19 | | on through the Ann E. Jones H.O.P.E. (Helping Others Pursue | 20 | | Excellence) Memorial Scholarship; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, Ann Jones committed to her faith at an early age, |

| 1 | | and she taught adult and youth Sunday school at Martin Temple | 2 | | C.M.E. Church in Cairo for over 10 years; she was known for her | 3 | | exceptional culinary skills, and her signature dishes were | 4 | | requested by family, friends, and co-workers on a regular | 5 | | basis; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Ann Jones was affectionately known as "Big Ann"; | 7 | | she was a hardworking, dedicated single mother who taught her | 8 | | six children the importance of respect and discipline, | 9 | | providing them with the foundation they needed to prepare for | 10 | | life; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Ann Jones was preceded in death by her parents; | 12 | | her brothers, Richard Jones, Clifton Jones, Hawkins "Dewey" | 13 | | Jones, James Ivy, Melvin Ivy, Thomas Ivy, Matthew Ivy, and | 14 | | Joseph Ivy; and her sisters, Deborah Ivy-O'Banion and Mary | 15 | | "Anne" Ivy-Johnson; and | 16 | | WHEREAS, Ann Jones is survived by her children, Angela | 17 | | Means, Ann "Lil Ann" Jones, Alissa Jones, Stacey (Konan) | 18 | | Kouakou, Anita (Luru) Berry, and Harley Dean Fowler Jr.; her | 19 | | sisters, Helen Jones-Oliver, Delores Ivy-Hunt, Shirley Jordan, | 20 | | Velma Ivy-Brown, and Cheryl (Darryl) Houston; her brother, | 21 | | Robert Jones; a very special person she thought of as a | 22 | | daughter, De'Keta McAllister; 13 grandchildren; 10 | 23 | | great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, |

| 1 | | extended family, and friends; therefore, be it | 2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 3 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 4 | | Ann Etter Jones and extend our sincere condolences to her | 5 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 6 | | further | 7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 8 | | presented to the family of Ann Jones as an expression of our | 9 | | deepest sympathy. |
