| 2 | | WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives is pleased | 3 | | to congratulate the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy's | 4 | | students, staff, faculty, and alumni on their outstanding | 5 | | efforts to prepare the next generation of science, technology, | 6 | | engineering and mathematics educators and students; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy's | 8 | | collaborative contributions on behalf of the State of Illinois | 9 | | to provide rigorous and distinctive science, technology, | 10 | | engineering and mathematics experiences to underserved and | 11 | | under-resourced students through the PROMISE programs, | 12 | | breaking down geographical and socio-economic barriers are | 13 | | deserving of recognition as well; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, The Academy's signature outreach program FUSION, | 15 | | supporting state educators, has been recognized twice by the | 16 | | Bayer Corporation as one of a select number of programs | 17 | | nationwide to earn the K-12 Best Practice Programs honor; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Increased access for students statewide to | 19 | | science, technology, engineering, and mathematics courses is | 20 | | delivered both online and face-to-face in residential, summer | 21 | | and weekend settings by the Academy through innovative programs | 22 | | like Total Applied Learning for Entrepreneurs, CoolHub, and the |

| 1 | | United Nations of Youth, develop the talented workforce our | 2 | | State and nation need to compete in the world; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, The Academy partners with The Golden Apple | 4 | | Scholars of Illinois to recruit and prepare a diverse group of | 5 | | bright and talented high school graduates and college | 6 | | sophomores who hold the promise for successful careers as | 7 | | excellent teachers in high-need schools; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Academy is successful in linking schools with | 9 | | industry to solve real-world problems through collaborations | 10 | | with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois | 11 | | State Board of Education, the Department of Commerce and | 12 | | Economic Opportunity in conjunction with the Illinois | 13 | | Innovation and Talent Project; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy is | 15 | | creating sustainable change throughout all of Illinois in its | 16 | | schools, libraries, community-based organizations, and allies | 17 | | such as After School Matters Chicago, cultivating lifelong | 18 | | learning skills and fostering the ability of our students to go | 19 | | beyond knowledge to mastery; therefore, be it

| 8 | | RESOLVED, That we wish the Academy well in seeking to | 9 | | achieve all of its objectives from encouraging all learners to | 10 | | achieve their personal aspirations and explore their potential | 11 | | to contribute to the common good to encouraging educators to | 12 | | use teaching and learning strategies grounded in imagination | 13 | | and inquiry; and be it further | 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 15 | | presented to Dr. Glenn "Max" McGee, and the Illinois | 16 | | Mathematics and Science Academy as a symbol of our respect and | 17 | | esteem.
