| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the | 3 |
| State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of | 4 |
| Commander Maurice Dailey of Chicago on January 14, 2006; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, One of nine children, Mr. Dailey grew up on the | 6 |
| West Side of Chicago and graduated from St. Mel High School; | 7 |
| after a short stint in the United States Marine Corps, he | 8 |
| joined the Chicago Police Department; and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, He arrived in the Rogers Park District in 1994 to | 10 |
| run a tactical team for the city's new community policing | 11 |
| program; his background in narcotics was also essential to the | 12 |
| community at the time; and
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, In 1997, when troubled community relations | 14 |
| prompted the department to oust the Monroe District commander, | 15 |
| Mr. Dailey was picked to smooth things over; and
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Most of the police officers who had known Maurice | 17 |
| Dailey for years called him "commander" out of respect after | 18 |
| the veteran made the rank in 1997, but they knew he wouldn't | 19 |
| have batted an eye if they still called him "Mo"; he ended his | 20 |
| career as commander of the Monroe District on the West Side, | 21 |
| never letting his success go to his head; and
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, He retired in 1999 and spent much of his time | 23 |
| hunting and fishing on a farm in Savanna, Illinois, where he | 24 |
| and his wife had bought land and built a house; he developed | 25 |
| his love of hunting and fishing from childhood trips to an | 26 |
| uncle's home near Kankakee; and
| 27 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Commander Maurice Dailey is felt by | 28 |
| all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Donna; his | 29 |
| son, Sean; his daughters, Megan and Carrie Trost; his eight |

| siblings, Theresa, Buddy, Julie, Sheila, Mary Pat, Timothy, | 2 |
| Mary Virginia, and Jim ; and his two grandchildren; therefore, | 3 |
| be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 5 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 6 |
| we mourn the passing of Commander Maurice Dailey and extend our | 7 |
| sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and community; | 8 |
| and be it further
| 9 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 10 |
| presented to his family as an expression of our deepest | 11 |
| sympathy.
