| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of John D. Jay of Mahomet, who passed away | 4 | | on December 12, 2019; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Jay was born in Champaign to John and Grace | 6 | | (Scales) Jay on June 11, 1942; he graduated from Champaign High | 7 | | School in 1960; he married Dorothy Munds in 1961, and they were | 8 | | married for nearly 30 years; he later married Connie "Sunny" | 9 | | (Curry) Barnhart on October 22, 1996; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, John Jay joined the Cornbelt Fire Department in | 11 | | 1971; he rose through the ranks and became fire chief in 1981; | 12 | | he retired in 2011; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, John Jay was active in the Future Farmers of | 14 | | America when he was in high school and started his own farm at | 15 | | the age of 17; he was a member of the Champaign County Farm | 16 | | Bureau and was Farm Leader of the Year in 2005; he was active | 17 | | in his community and served on both the Zoning Board of Appeals | 18 | | and the Champaign County Board; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, John Jay was preceded in death by his brother, | 20 | | Gale, and his brother-in-law, Don Deem; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, John Jay is survived by his wife, Connie; his | 2 | | children, Bill (Jill) Jay, John (Lorie) Jay, Clay (Amy) | 3 | | Barnhart, and Angie (Mark) Bundy; 18 grandchildren; eight | 4 | | great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Beth (Al) Barnes, Ann | 5 | | Rollins, Ralph Jay, and Ruth Jay; therefore, be it
| 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 7 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 8 | | John D. Jay and extend our sincere condolences to his family, | 9 | | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| 10 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 11 | | presented to the family of John Jay as an expression of our | 12 | | deepest sympathy.
