HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Illinois Action for
4Children on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of its
5founding; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Illinois Action for Children was founded by
7Sylvia Cotton in 1969 as the Day Care Crisis Council of
8Metropolitan Chicago in response to concerns about a lack of
9quality child care available to working parents; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ms. Cotton was spurred into action by working on
11a child care study for the City of Chicago, recognizing that
12there was inadequate access to child care funding for working
13families and that child care providers face conflicting and
14confusing regulations, leading to poor standards in child care
15facilities; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Illinois Action for Children initially focused
17its mission on advocacy, helping spur the creation of an
18Office of Child Care Services in Chicago through frequent
19rallies and letters to the editor to local newspapers; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Illinois Action for Children grew its work to
21help proactively address issues faced by families in need of

1child care services and child care providers, helping engage
2both stakeholders to support informed public policy on child
3care; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Today, Illinois Action for Children hosts a range
5of programs for child care providers and early childhood
6educators, for local communities, and for parents and
7families, performs research to understand the child care and
8early learning experiences of Illinois families and care
9providers, and provides advocacy to improve the experiences of
10and resources available to children, families, and child care
11providers; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we congratulate Illinois Action for Children on its 55th
15anniversary and wish them many more successful years; and be
16it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to Illinois Action for Children as a symbol of our
19respect and esteem.
