| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Frances Marie Cramer of Rantoul, who | 4 | | passed away on September 24, 2017; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Frances Cramer was born in Danville to George and | 6 | | Olive (Francis) Magers on November 9, 1920; she attended grade | 7 | | school in Westville and graduated from Georgetown High School | 8 | | in 1938; she earned her teaching certificate at Eastern | 9 | | Illinois State Teachers College; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Frances Cramer taught elementary school in | 11 | | Martinsville until she married Ernest F. "Bud" Cramer on | 12 | | December 31, 1941; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Frances Cramer loved reading and continuing her | 14 | | education; she completed a Bachelor of Arts from Eastern | 15 | | Illinois University and one from the University of Illinois in | 16 | | liberal arts and in Christian education; she supported the Art | 17 | | Institute of Chicago, the National Museum for Women in the | 18 | | Arts, Baroque Artists of Champaign-Urbana, and programming on | 19 | | public radio and TV; she regularly attended concerts in the | 20 | | area and rarely missed an event at the Krannert Center; she | 21 | | listened to opera on WILL every Saturday; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, In 1969, Frances Cramer was on the founding | 2 | | committee for the Clothing Center in Rantoul run by Church | 3 | | Women United; she served as its volunteer director for over 30 | 4 | | years; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Frances Cramer was a longtime member of Rantoul | 6 | | First United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday | 7 | | school teacher, a delegate to the annual conference, and held | 8 | | local and district leadership positions in the Wesleyan Service | 9 | | Guild, Church Women United, and United Methodist Women; and | 10 | | WHEREAS, Frances Cramer received several awards, including | 11 | | the Champaign County Friend of the Family Award in 1977, the | 12 | | Diana Award for Exceptional Service to Humanity in 1980, the | 13 | | Rantoul Citizen of the Year in 1995, and the Church Women | 14 | | United Valiant Woman Award in 2000; she received the | 15 | | Tolly-Cramer award in 2006 from the Methodist Federation for | 16 | | Social Action for lay persons engaged in social justice | 17 | | ministries; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Frances Cramer was preceded in death by her | 19 | | parents; her husband of 56 years, Ernest; her daughter, the | 20 | | Rev. Jean Cramer-Heuerman; her son-in-law, Jack | 21 | | Cramer-Heuerman; and her grandson, Stephen Brockway; and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Frances Cramer is survived by her daughter, Mary |

| 1 | | Jo (Lowell) Brockway; her grandson, John (Angela) Brockway; her | 2 | | great-granddaughters, Abigail Marie and Aliana Grace; her | 3 | | "adopted daughters", the Rev. Janet Eggleston and Kathy Finney; | 4 | | her special friend, Lavonne Smith; and numerous nieces, a | 5 | | nephew, and great- and great-great-nieces and nephews; | 6 | | therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | Frances Marie Cramer, and extend our sincere condolences to her | 10 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 11 | | further
