| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Augusta May Adams of Chicago, who passed | 4 | | away on February 1, 2014; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Augusta Adams was born in Brownsville, Tennessee | 6 | | on August 10, 1918 to Albert and Susie Bond; she attended | 7 | | Austin High School in Knoxville, Tennessee and Tennessee State | 8 | | University; in 1944, she graduated from beauty school and | 9 | | became a cosmetologist; she married Allen Adams in 1967; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Augusta Adams followed her passion for cooking and | 11 | | became a dietician for the Knoxville School System; she then | 12 | | moved to Chicago and began working as a dietician for the State | 13 | | of Illinois; she retired after over 30 years of service as a | 14 | | dietary manager with the Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Institute; | 15 | | and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Augusta Adams, along with her husband, were | 17 | | founding members of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in | 18 | | Chicago, where she served for many years as the President of | 19 | | the Pastor's Service Club; she later joined Faith United | 20 | | Methodist Church in Chicago; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Augusta Adams enjoyed traveling, cooking, |

| 1 | | quilting, fishing, and watching religious programming on | 2 | | television; she also enjoyed playing with her grandchildren, | 3 | | great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Augusta Adams was preceded in death by her | 5 | | parents, and by her son, Albert; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Augusta Adams is survived by her son, Gene Harper; | 7 | | her grandchildren, Phyllis Harper, Cheryl (Yul) | 8 | | Harper-Cousins, Diane (J.C.) Smith, Albert (Kim) Harper, Jr., | 9 | | Darius (Janice) Harper, Karlette Karas, Kenneth Harper, and | 10 | | Michelle (Ronald) Burrell; her great-grandchildren, Tre' | 11 | | Harper, Branden Cousins, Brycen Cousins, Darius, Jr., Kenneth, | 12 | | Jr., Cameron Harper, Ashley Smith, Tiffany Smith, Jeremy Smith, | 13 | | Teahzjawon Harper, Bradley, Jr., Steven Karas, and Nickie | 14 | | Karas; her 4 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Alma | 15 | | Williams; her daughters-in-law, Bobbie Harper and Bonnie | 16 | | Harper; her cousins, Vashti Tyson, Sue Dent, and Bernice | 17 | | Harper; and a host of other relatives and friends including Pat | 18 | | Cox, Judy Ector, Kenneth Fonville, Earl Fagen, and Mr. and Mrs. | 19 | | James Sankey; therefore, be it
