| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Michael Patrick Drea of Taylorville, who | 4 | | passed away on October 7, 2017; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mike Drea was born in Taylorville to Patrick E. | 6 | | and Marjorie L (Rhodes) Drea on May 13, 1957; he graduated from | 7 | | South Fork High School in 1975; he earned both his Bachelor's | 8 | | Degree in Accounting and Master in Business Administration from | 9 | | Sangamon State University; he was also a Certified Procurement | 10 | | Buyer; he married Kathy Nolan at St. Mary's Church in | 11 | | Taylorville on September 7, 1985; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Mike Drea worked for the State of Illinois for 32 | 13 | | years, including 25 years in the Comptroller's Office and later | 14 | | for the Illinois Executive Ethics Commission at the Department | 15 | | of Transportation as a Procurement Officer and State Purchasing | 16 | | Officer; he retired in 2013; he was an active member of the | 17 | | Christian County Democratic Party and strongly believed in | 18 | | public service at the local level; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Mike Drea was elected to the Christian County | 20 | | Board and served as both Vice Chairman and Chairman; while on | 21 | | the board, he served on the Executive Committee and the Audit | 22 | | and Finance Committees; throughout his 18 years of service on |

| 1 | | the Board, he was most proud of his efforts to streamline the | 2 | | Board by reducing the number of members; he was later | 3 | | unanimously appointed and sworn in as the Christian County | 4 | | Treasurer on June 3, 2013; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mike Drea had a passion for serving his community | 6 | | and was proud to be active in many organizations; he served as | 7 | | Director of the Christian County Agricultural Fair Association | 8 | | for 31 years; he also served on the CEFS Economic Opportunity | 9 | | Corporation Board of Directors, the Langleyville Water Board, | 10 | | and was an active member of the Midland Community Bank Board | 11 | | and the Taylorville Community Garden; he proudly participated | 12 | | in the American Lung Association Fight for Air Climb at the | 13 | | Springfield Hilton for seven years; he was a member of St. | 14 | | Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Mike Drea enjoyed coaching his sons' sports teams | 16 | | and did so for the St. Mary School Basketball program and the | 17 | | Red Bland Little League and Pony League, as well as a traveling | 18 | | team; he participated in Tae Kwon Do with his sons for several | 19 | | years and earned his First Degree Black Belt; he was an avid | 20 | | raquetball player and fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the | 21 | | Fighting Illini; and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Mike Drea enjoyed traveling with his family, | 23 | | especially to Ireland, Jamaica, and many national parks; he |

| 1 | | loved his dog, Macy; above all, he was a loving husband and | 2 | | incredibly proud of his sons; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Mike Drea was preceded in death by his father; and | 4 | | his father-in-law, Donald Nolan; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mike Drea is survived by his wife, Kathy; his | 6 | | sons, Nolan and Ryan; his mother, Marjorie; his brother, John | 7 | | (Brenda) Drea; his niece, Kelsey (Robert) Hostert; his nephew, | 8 | | Thomas Drea; and his mother-in-law, Mary Nolan; therefore, be | 9 | | it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 12 | | Michael Patrick Drea, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 13 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 14 | | further
| 15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 16 | | presented to the family of Mike Drea as an expression of our | 17 | | deepest sympathy.
